Avatar released an extended edition in Aug. 2010, which pushed it to $2.788 billion. What's interesting about the timeline here is that it was released as a bare-bones Blu-ray in April 2010. So the extended cut came four months after it was already on Blu-ray. Then it was re-released on Blu-ray as the extended cut in November 2010. Fox also released the 3D Blu-ray of Avatar as an exclusive mail-in with Panasonic Blu-ray players in 2010, before releasing it in regularly in 2012. Endgame will probably add a post-credits scene and its re-release is a nice marketing push for Spider-Man: Far From Home. And it probably won't have 3-4 separate Blu-ray releases within 2 years.

just want to say, Rocha's point about the skin tones of the Latinos in the West Side story isn't that there is a problem with light skinned Latinos (he is one himself), it's that Latinos... like the Puerto Ricans and Domincans you would find in New York City would be all different shades. If you were up in Spanish Harlem and took a picture of random groups of people... it would not look like the West Side story picture that they released. Rocha was just arguing for a portayal that felt more real and authentic to where this story actually takes place. Rocha's point also wasn't just about skin color. Avengers: Endgame is not being re-released. It will still be in theatres when the new footage is added in. You can't re-release something that hasn't even been out of theatres yet. The fact that people think the extra footage is gonna be what makes A:E pass Avatar is perplexing. With it having major ties to AE, the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home alone will bump A:E up the $45 million it needs to pass Avatar.

If endgame is re-released with new footage then it shouldn't count towards the original box office results. Look at Star Wars re-releases with new footage, all are counted differently on Box Office Mojo. Only if it is re-released as the original edit, it should count towards the original box office.
