Here's the sad part. With all the news that's come out, it's become increasingly clear that Disney is at fault for their greed, but it doesn't matter. Disney is invincible now. We're mad that they don't own Spidey, but they pretty much own everything else. Even if Sony works extremely hard to make some amazing new Spider-Man films, a lot of people won't see it because it's not a part of the MCU. Into the Spider-Verse was great and won an Oscar, but do you guys know how much money that movie made? Not much. Wanna know why Venom did so well? Tons of rumours that it would somehow connect to the MCU or that Tom Holland would cameo in it (which according to this video is actually true and they cut it out which is kinda hilarious), which put enough asses in seats for people to realize that Venon was like a weird so-bad-its-good kinda movie and for word to spread. In both situations the MCU had a big impact on the box office return. Disney can survive without Spider-Man, but can Sony survive if people don't see their most lucrative character in films anymore?

Disney gets 100% of the merchandise. They get 100% of gross from any of the non-Spider-Man MCU movies that he appears in. And now that want 50% of the only thing that Sony makes money off of in terms of Spider-Man movies? There's no realistic scenario in which Sony was ever going to agree to that. And if they did then they'd be fired on the spot for giving up half of Sony's biggest movie franchise. While it's true that Disney/Marvel helped elevate Spider-Man to a billion. Let's not act like the movies were doing poorly. Every live action Sony Spider-Man movie has made over 700m. What Disney/Marvel has contributed to it certainly warrants them asking for a bigger share than 5%, but it's nowhere near 50%. 15-20%? Sure.

1. Far from home only made 1 billion because that rumor came out where it needed to and all the marvel super fans came in flock to give Disney money. 2. Sony bought insomniac games and now they are going to produce exclusive Spider-Man games forever and ever. 3. Disney makes 4 billion this summer and wants more and more money 4. If Spider-Man does leave then that makes Disney fast track fantastic 4 or x men because currently they don’t have any heavy hitters besides black panther and maybe captain marvel. 5.if Spider-Man leaves the MCU then we get traditional old school Spider-Man movies that can be their own thing and come out whenever. Which is something people have been wanting for ever since we got iron man junior spider boy

The cliff hanger in the Spider-man franchise isn't dependent at all on the MCU, they wrapped up the heir to Tony Stark arc and his identity being public has nothing to do with the MCU or any of its characters or stories, and can easily be continued on it's own. The only MCU character tied to the Spider-man franchise from the Spider-man point of view is Happy Hogan... and the Skrull cliff hanger is more of Captain Marvel 2 / MCU tease than Spider-man related. The MCU is more tied to Spider-man than Spider-man solo canon is tied to the MCU.

Nobody in their right mind would agree to Marvels demands. No studio would agree to Disneys offer. They wanted 50/50 profit split(10 times more than before) and also wanted 50%of other sony properties as well(venom 2, kraven, etc....)
@plo6175 жыл бұрын
People are insane to think that Sony should've taken the deal. Disney is power drunk right now.

Disney/Marvel did the heavy lifting. Sony was on their way to shelving the characters, after a failed reboot. Also, Sony had the chance to include merchandising in their original purchase of the IP, they didn't want it. All, they wanted was the "live action" rights.
