The way you recreated the old master work, was quite amazing in itself Malcolm. A beautiful scene & a very enjoyable demonstration, to reproduce the piece. It would have been very nice as you say, if you had discovered the original work.

It would have been a great find if it was an original watercolour. The print is Still charming as inspiration Can you imagine the future generations finding your art in a thrift store and recreating it lovingly too. Art survives generations

To my knowledge it is fine to paint a reproduction with full credit to the original artist. You would sign it off as "after .... " This is done all the time.

I can't see a copy of that particular print online or on Wikipedia. Maybe you have something special there, even if it is stained.
