Nice trout Mark! Who needs a kayak with days like that?! LOL!! Anyone else remember the Texas City Dike, lighted pier? I have a lot of memories of great fishing from that pier but more than that, I remember those GREAT cheeseburgers and fries that were made to order as well! Nice trip down memory lane!

When the State changed the number and size limit because of the freeze, it seems to have really helped increase the numbers of large trout. There have been days on South Padre that I've caught 50+ trout on artificials and the bulk of the fish were in the 16" range.

you are catching some huge trout, wow, 24' and above are good fights, ill only keep 18,20". wouldn't you think with all the money the dike brings in, they could cement that first area to get up on the rocks. very hard and dangerous to try, if like me am limited with walking, bad knees, and no left ankle, but I try every time out there. we need a concerted effort to get that done. been fishing the dike since they had the pier there and the bait camps on the dike. best burgers came from that bait shop at the end.

Hey dude, love your channel. I have a question for you in regards to leaders and the lure. I’ve never used lures before and want to start. Can you utilize a swivel top metal leader with the “hook clip” base and attach the jig/lure to it without issue? Or do you need to have your lead be fishing line attached to swivel + 18” line (instead of metal, and tie the hook) on instead of clipping? Sorry if this a dumb question. Learning!
@MDLRFishing Жыл бұрын
Not a dumb question, yes you can do that but I doubt you’ll get many bites from the fish. I would personally recommend tying straight to your lure without any clips.
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter Жыл бұрын
@@MDLRFishing thank you. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. Can you tie the lure directly to the line or do I need to buy a double swivel and create my own lead then attach. Thanks again, hoping to crush it Friday.
@MDLRFishing Жыл бұрын
@@TheBioDudeJoshHalter I only use a fluoro leader and then tie straight to it.
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter Жыл бұрын
@@MDLRFishing So your "leader" as a whole is just the line you are using in your reel. No swivel or anything. Got it. Sorry for the Mr.Slow Mo here. I have always been weight, metal leader with live bait or poppin cork so I am learning as I go. Your channel has helped me so much and I am going to become a Patreon, especially since you took the time out of your day to answer my Noob questions!

Nice vid. This might be a weird question. Is it safe to eat the fish out of there?
@MDLRFishing Жыл бұрын
At this point everything humans touch is almost never safe to eat. I don’t rely on a government entity to tell me what is and isn’t safe. I’ll take my chances with a young fish over a fast food meal. Too bad there’s no health consumption advisory lists on those places. To answer your question, there’s a reason why I only like to harvest barley legal fish. They haven’t spent much of their lives in our polluted waters. Plus the younger flesh is a whole lot tastier. 🤙
