I'd have loved it too, but I absolutely *hated* the stupid remake they did, however, the comics are quite good, namely the "Death of Apollo" series of comics, as they deal with the same characters as in the show. I was a toddler when this show was on television in its original format and live, so I remember very little of it overall.

@@chissstardestroyer I always loved BSG. I watched it first-run on ABC. Even have nostalgia for G1980. The Return of Starbuck was amazing and sad. I bought the comics in the 90’s. I read Hatch’s books in the 90’s and my gf got one of them signed by Hatch for me at SD Comic Con. And that being said, reimagined BSG is frakkin awesome. I just started my 4th watch of the series. I never grew up with this show as I wasn’t born yet until 1979 yet it seems this show could have had more seasons but at the time I do wonder it was canceled? Networks like to do that lol even in todays times but I do remember the spin off battlestar in 2004 series it was ok it held up for it’s time but the thing is with the classic one the writers could have had a better story line instead of earth 🌍 and having a story line of agent gods and having Athena etc not trying to be critical or anything even the 2004 one it could have been better when I think about .

I wish they could have made a spin-off series starring Edward Mulhare as John from the Ship Of Lights preparing certain chosen individuals in various important walks of life here on Earth for the arrival of their brothers from the stars. Could have been very interesting and very well thought out with good writers, imagination. Also top actors for the other leaders on the Ship of Lights.

There were so many things going against the original BSG: the sudden shift of the series going from a planned tv movie trilogy to an unplanned tv series; having spent less on special effects and recycling the same stock footage for space battles; changing the Cylons from alien reptiles to robots because of censorship; no more colonial ships with innocent people getting blown up; colonial viper pilots no longer get killed off; ect. With all that, the series' ratings tanked and it all went down the tubes. NBC micromanaged the whole thing.

@@CosmoShidan No, the OG series had a certain charm about it. A similar campiness that was shared by another series of the same time that I loved 'Buck Rogers'. Attempting to reboot a series with 'edginess' and making it darker sometimes destroys the feel and charm of the original. Heroes like Starbuck were ruined a bit by gender swapping, he was a cigar smoking, drinking womanising hotshot pilot, i.e. ultra cool. While Katee Sackoff did a good job, the character worked better as a guy. The cylons were also cool with the distinctive metallic voice and the moving red eye, they were also campy in an almost Doctor Who way but still fun.

Simply having Black folk in film or tv was groundbreaking, but not really a step toward progress nowadays. This is because you still have white dudes as the main characters in the 1978 show. Now the reimagined BSG had Hispanics, Asians, First Nations, and Mixed persons of color in it. We can indeed call this a step toward progress. Although, even in the reimangined series, while it was a step toward diversity almost 20 years ago, it still had white folk in the main leads. It may appear that the culture has changed, but the act of color-blind casting is still a thing. Plus, there needs to be more writers of color in the writers room and the editing room.
