@@jacobnunya While you are correct in that faith in absence of evidence is different from faith in direct contradiction of evidence, neither is sceptical. To take a simple example, there is a box. It is closed, and opaque. A sceptical person says we don't know what, if anything, is inside. A person with faith might insist there is a carrot inside. This is what you termed blind faith. If we open the box, look inside, find no carrot, and someone still believes there's a carrot in there, that is what you term true faith. (If the box was opened and a carrot was discovered, faith is obviously no longer required to believe in the carrot, but true faith would in fact be required to disbelieve in the carrot). Of course, all forms of faith are only held by the stupid. Even if they happen by complete coincidence to be correct, believing that a box contains a carrot for literally no reason is still stupid. Objectively you have no idea what's inside, you just got absurdly lucky.

It was a post-production error. The number is just a graphic, and they got it wrong here and in the scene when Starbuck exits the new Viper. Epic space battles they could do, but showing a consistent ship number somehow escaped the effects crew.

I always figured that it was a post production error since the number doesn't subtly change when an object passes in front of it to block it or something along those lines, it just very obviously changes. That and there's a potential that the story of the Viper not existing is made up since the one reporting it is a Cylon along with two others in that scene.
@ladymercy5275

It's only 8757 when Tyrol and other Cylons are telling their lie, in a deliberate attempt to confuse Adama and Roslin. When the camera changes view, we're shown the truth; that it's a Viper that was practically new when it was eliminated early on in the conflict. Flown by "Chuckles," it was downed via only superficial damage when a stray bullet unluckily hit the pilot directly in the head killing them instantly. Viper 4267 then drifted undamaged off screen, so it's entirely feasible that the Cylons recovered it, and much later put Kara Thrace in there for... whatever reason Cylons like Leoben do their twisted mind-games. (Remember when he told her they had a child together?) It shows Starbuck's tail number when Chief Tyrol is lying about it, but as soon as his story is over, it goes back to what it actually is, so it's like a visual queue to the audience that his story doesn't match up. But nobody notices, since it's just a number. To them, not working on the deck, it could be 4267 or 8757 and it wouldn't make a difference. The only audience only get this clue, because we see it change, something that wouldn't actually happen in-univese, but would effectively as if the numbers were changing given what they mean. It's as if he's effectively changing the tail numbers just by lying about whose is whom's, and the show chooses to represent this by flipping them when nobody is looking.
@beyerch
@beyerch 2 жыл бұрын
@@ladymercy5275 That's some deep thought stuff; however, they only showed the tail # twice in the scene so it is hard to know if it was a simple mistake or intentional. If there would have been at least another shot of it, that might help to confirm this thought. Strangest detail is Kara just disappearing at the end of the series. If she's a Cylon, I don't think they have an "evaporate" mode.... Definitely a mystery here.

Why did no one point out the blindingly obvious: Vipers do not have FTL systems and yet we have Kara re-appearing dozens of light-years away, and having purported to have been to at least two other star systems during her time away (Earth and the triple star system). Personally, I always thought that the Mandala on the planet where she vanished was the anchor point for a wormhole. As she went in, the tidal forces began ripping her ship apart, resulting in the explosion and debris Lee witnessed (probably ordinance cooking off). The wormhole Spat her out above Earth, where she managed to pilot her disintegrating ship to a crash-landing and died on impact. However, as was coming in, an automated system scanned her ship, and a long-dormant AI on the planet, itself having grown mournful of the long cycle of death and destruction, used the data to manufacture a replacement Viper exactly the same as her original one, using subterranean factories. Additionally, since I buy into the theory that Kara's dad was a number 7, she had just enough Cylon DNA to register to the Resurrection system (remember, the final five downloaded to a ship in orbit, they never said that that was the only resurrection site they created. In fact, that would be rather idiotic to live and work on the ground on for the sole system to be in space.) The AI flash-cloned a replacement body for her, and when she was ready, it loaded her into the Viper, and sent her back via FTL system. It knew approximately where the fleet was based on both the archaic texts they were following, as well as some ancient yet still functional thirteenth tribe observation satellites scattered throughout this part of the galaxy. It used the FTL system to send her back to the fleet (remember, Anders said that the ship they downloaded to didn't have FTL, not that the 13th didn't have FTL period. They had to have had FTL to travel to earth from Kobol, otherwise the timeline gets screwy.) Possibly the AI also implants her with the vision of where the Rebel Cylon Basestar is, so she knows to find them and broker peace between the two. It would actually fit with a lot of her subliminal impulses and other behavior post-return. So Starbuck returns and eventually guides them to earth. Not to live there, not so the AI could kill them, but to show them a tomb. To show Humanity and its Children a graveyard of Cylon and human-Cylon alike, along with the graveyard of the Cyrannus system that they had fled. Show them "This is what your petty squabbles always lead to. It happened before, it will happen again, unless you find a way to come to peace with one another." The AI didn't speak or reach out to them, likely because the humans would not trust them, and that this was a lesson better learned by a mute, dead planet. Finally, when they reach Our Earth, the AI (somehow) either recalls Kara, or grants her the death she'd been seeking since she first entered the wormhole. Her job was done, she could rest.

The Resurrection of Kara Thrace In Battlestar Galactica Season 3 episode "Maelstrom", Kara Thrace vanishes mysteriously along with her Viper within a violent maelstrom around a gas giant planet. In the final scene before Kara disappears into the maelstrom, it's clear that even if she were to somehow survive, her Viper is starting to break up and will not make it back to Galactica intact. When Kara miraculously returns to Galactica several months later, she is piloting an undamaged Viper and claims she has been to Earth, but has no recollection of the months during which she had been missing. In the cockpit of her Viper a homing beacon flashes, presumably indicating the location of Earth. Galactica tracks the signal to a dead planet that had been nuked 2000 years earlier, where Kara finds a wrecked Viper containing her own corpse. Galactica subsequently discovers a verdant planet identified as a prehistoric version of our own Earth, where Kara once again vanishes without a trace. Whether Kara was a human, a Cylon, a ghost, or an angel is one of numerous puzzles left unexplained in the series finale. Here is a theory that explains Kara Thrace's resurrection without resorting to supernatural intervention. It relies on relativistic time travel via wormhole, a not unreasonable conjecture in a universe where instantaneous Faster Than Light physics are employed for routine space travel. 1. After Kara vanishes into the maelstrom, she encounters a spacetime wormhole and blacks out as it transports her to a decaying orbit around nuked Earth. After recovering conciousness, she visually identifies the planet while her ship records its coordinates, activating its homing beacon. She then flies back through the wormhole, not realizing that months of time have relativistically elapsed during her return flight. 2. Galactica tracks down the nuked planet via the homing beacon, and there Kara discovers a wrecked Viper. In the Viper's cockpit she discovers a corpse and removes a charred copy of her own dogtags from around its neck. This is the corpse of her future self, who is destined to fly once more into the maelstrom. The wormhole will then hurl her back in time to crash on the nuked planet, a few months before it is tracked down by Galactica. 3. Kara gives her corpse's charred dogtags to Baltar on Galactica. Months later, Galactica discovers verdant Earth, and the colonists set about decomissioning their spacecraft. Kara realises that it is time for her to return to the maelstrom in her Viper and fulfill her destiny. 4. Kara uses the wormhole to travel back in time to rendevous with her past self in a decaying orbit around nuked Earth. At that point in time, her past self has blacked out, her Viper has suffered irreparable damage, and it is doomed to eventually crash into the planet. To prevent that fate from happening to past-Kara, future-Kara docks with the disabled Viper, drags unconscious past-Kara out of that ship and exchanges Vipers with her, leaving past-Kara to regain consciousness later in the undamaged Viper and discover nuked Earth. After past-Kara returns to Galactica through the wormhole, future-Kara rides the disabled Viper down to crash into the planet. It is only later that past-Kara will reconstruct what happened and recognize that she is destined to become her own guardian angel.

I don't like plot-holes or unexplained things. You can't have a main character be called the Harbinger of Death from two different Hybrids and have a mysterious dad, and mention that the Number 7 line was murdered (an artist and sensitive to the world) without closure. Remember her dad chose his art over his family. Kara just disappears at the end on Earth II. Her mother always said she had a destiny and was special. Would have been a great story for her mother to married and loved a Num 7, which is why Kara was born. The key ingredient to a hybrid child was actual love between the two species. Thus making her the first hybrid child which grants her a special destiny for the rest. Instead it was she got to revisit her mother on her deathbed before dying herself, dies in the storm, comes back in a pristine Viper, finds her dead body on Cylon Earth then discovers that the notes of her father's piano song equals the jump coordinates to Earth II (humanity's end). Then suddenly disappears when Lee turns his back to view Earth II landscape. You can't have a story where she becomes some Seraph of the End and not have some connection to the overall story devices of her mother and father, Cylons, 13th Tribe, magic music notes, and being reborn out of nowhere.

If you want closure, then know that number 7 has no role in any of this other than to explain why there are only 7 cylons in the cylon fleet, but one model is #8. This is confirmed by the creator. This starbuck is one of the messengers, aka angels, like head six and head baltar, except she isn't aware of her nature and is visible to everyone. She's imbued with the personality and memories of the human starbuck, perhaps even a continuation of her in some sense. Her father isn't particularly special here. Her role was to help the colonials make it to "new Earth" to settle. She was the harbinger of death because she brought death to the cylons by being the lynchpin in the operation to destroy their resurrection hub.

And then after the ghost disappeared theres no more discussion on how or why she knows the song. Then the writers had ellen tell the tale of Daniel just to fill a plot hole. The remake of Battlestar Galactica had a strong leaning towards Scripture and an unseen God being behind how events unfolded. Kara Thrace was part of God's plan to lead Humanity back to Earth, and when she died, God brought her back to fulfil her mission. In the very last episode she completes her sacred mission and mysteriously disappears as though taken back up into the Heavens...... Once you step back and see the bigger picture of the story, it's actually a very interesting side story...... Kara Thrace is the one who is given the divine numbers to enter into the FTL Jump Computer which leads Galactica back to Earth. Without Kara they would not have made it back home Interestingly the jump coordinates to Earth are a mirrored version of the Fibonacci sequence.

None of it makes any logical sense. There have been too many leaps of logic and holes to sew it together properly. So, they just play it up with hints, suggestion and atmosphere and then let the audience endlessly puzzle it out and discuss it in their own way. Many viewers with be convinced that their own explanation is the right one but the fact is that they did not have a well laid out plan for the entire series and ultimately made up things as they went along.

It's called poetic storytelling. Maybe it'd help if you get acquainted with Virgil's Aeneid.

Spare me the smoke and mirrors. They started out with some effective concepts, mainly visual and atmospheric, by which to give a different take on the original series but without a plan. They ended up without a coherent story so they just slapped different things together to keep the machine running.

I have long had a theory. There were no humans at all. They all died in the Cylon War. The war did not happen 50 years before but more like 500 or even 5000 years before. Every single one of them were in fact a Cylon. Cylons that had advanced so far they though they were human. If you really think about it this is the only thing that makes any sence.

And this is when BSG started going downhill for me. Starbuck's return was never explained. Unless "gawd dun it" satisfies somebody. It's as if post Final Five reveal RDM had no idea where to go so it was Deus Ex Machina over all.

I mean they did try to set it up. Starbuck was always supposed to be drawn to the wormhole and was always supposed to be sent back; it's just that it was sloppy intentionally so that the humans would realize there was another force at play beyond even the Final Five or the Thirteenth Tribe which they didn't really understand until the attack on the Colony.

Are you saying that based on the fan theory that number 7, Daniel, was her father? Ron Moore (show creator) debunked that theory a long time ago. The original Starbuck was fully human, and died. This version of her is the same type of being that Head Six is, but different in that she doesn't know what she is and can be seen by everyone.

Correct. Starbuck is not a half cylon. For the plot, the first half cylon/human baby is Hera. That’s even why they put Cally in an affair with another man than Chief, after we all (writers included) discovered that Chief is a cylon. Their baby could not be the first half-blood instead of Hera.

They went off the rails a bit here in the last season. I never could swallow the whole concept of Starbuck's journey and all that followed. And who the final five Cylons were was a bit frakked in my opinion. Some exciting moments in Season 4 but the weakest of all seasons.

A messenger like baltar and number 6 "ghost". They are the version you prefer: angel from god (this is what people think in the show) or superior aliens being like ancients in stargate. In the official lord it's the second version. They are the entities who rules the eternal circle of human/cylon history
