Me vs Mamizou Futatsuiwa (TD Extra Boss)

Mamizou Futatsuiwa (what a ridiculously contrived name) is the Ex-boss of the game Ten Desires, the 13th installment of the Touhou Project. The Touhou Project is a series of bullet hell where unknown girls of undefined appearance battle mysterious shrine maidens, enigmatic witches, and otherworldly swordswomen in a clash of strange bullets that create mystic patterns. Queer. The creator of this puzzling creations is an odd individual known only by the ominous pseudonym of ZUN
So... a raccoon... the big bad Exboss is a freaking tanuki. Is official, ZUN did the same mushrooms that made Miyamoto do Super Mario Bros 3. Similar to Nue, Mamizou ability is the power to change objects shape. As a matter of fact, apparently Mamizou is a friend of Nue who came from outside Gensokyo to help her in one way or another. It's very hard to get clear image on the situation when all you see are runes.
Anyways, her character design is odd for an extra boss. The extra bosses normally are childish looking youkai with a dose of creepiness and/or quirkiness for good measure ( Flandre, Nue, Koishi, Suika, and Suwako) or mature ones with seven levels on badassitude (the heroines, Ran, Yukari, and Mokou). However, Mamizou isn't really any. Her design makes her look like an antiquated old timer, who enjoys sitting in a chair in front of her wooden house playing the banjo or some other cliché stuff. This is probably due to her glasses and general color scheme though. Actually, she looks kind of like a senile old man, given how she has one eye closed, wears a leave for a hat, has messy hair, and... maybe it's just me or the art style, but her glasses look crooked.
I don't think her character is going to pick up much steam given she's basically a brunette, nature themed Nue. But I could be wrong. She's definitely not dethroning either Suika or Yuugi in the drunkard department. I cannot read her dialogue, but if I have to guess her fanmade personality will be that of the genki girl to a mischievous, calculating, calm Nue.
Mamizou fight is pretty tough actually, unlike the rest of the game. She introduce what I'll call the animal danmaku. If you though Nue's UFO where a pain, Mamizou's animals will make you crawl in a corner and weep for merciful relieve from your suffering. They can basically be put like this:
-The Gingerbread army throws pellets at you
-The hounds try to do Take Down on you
-The birds try ram into you
-The frogs explode (typical)
Unlike the UFO's, they cannot be destroyed. Their hitbox is hard to judge due to their irregular shape and they come many at a time. Luckily, a bomb will wipe them out of existence... until Mamizou summons more. Yay. This makes her fight pretty infuriating. And the life system in Ten Desires doesn't help.
Anyways, that's all for now. On a unrelated note: **** KZbin. This video took me more than 6 hours to upload because of KZbin and I have to redo my RKS run because of KZbin.

I don't know, the fact that Nue of all people called Mamizou to take care of Toyosatomimi no Miko says a lot. If you take the Mario comparisons even further, it's important to note that Mario is a chubby plumber who regularly curb-stomps Eldritch horrors and dragons. "They called me in to fight a god-like saint of Buddhism who had recently pulled a Jesus" sounds just as good on a résumé, methinks.

You have to remember that Mamizou was called into Gensokyo from Nue, who stated she was the "Youkai's triumph card". In perspective, Mamizou was supposed to go defeat Miko & Co.. I'd say that makes her pretty impressive.

I managed to beat Mamizou within a few weeks of having the Extra Stage unlocked, myself. However, it took a lot of practice. I've beaten Mamizou twice, but I only consider the more recent victory legitimate (the first one I had very bad slowdown). She's a really fun fight though, very unique patterns, colorful and playful tone for the fight.

On my first time ever fighting Mamizou, I captured six of her spellcards. Before ever even seeing them before. I lost all my lives on her eighth, however....

Well done as always, raak! On the first Spell Card though, the trick is to go outside the wall of gingerbread men (i.e. right of the rightmost or left of the leftmost), the middle is definitely where you DON'T want to be when they get to you. Tanuki's Monsterous School and Wild Deserted Island usually destroy me, though :(

I think the "pompokolin" in the last spell referes to the "odoru pompokolin", the first ED for an old kodomo anime called Chibi Maruko-chan. You could look it up. The song itself is quite jumpy and non-sensical, and the art used in it is ... quite interesting to look at.

@MaxXXXorJustMax It does make sense, Nue and Mamizou both wandered around pranking humans and were close friends, but now that Nue has settled down, she called in Mamizou from Sado (she was actually living in Japan) as a favor to stand up to the Taoists. Unfortunately, Tanuki's tend to not listen to a word people say... lol

People are underappreciating Mamizou, but I already get that Ex Boss feeling from her. You read my mind, raak, she's the Nue of nature. That's why she's her friend, I thought that Nue might have called her because she's a sore loser and didn't want the heroines to have the last word. That is also why the fight is in the Myouren temple, since she lives there with Byakuren. But no one can against the power of the heroines! Not even an ancient tanuki youkai that is stronger than that Old Youkai #1.

@raak1010 I mean it in Lunatic, but the secret is more of a rumour (Though a very plausible one) That the final boss was based off of a certain Male Character, considering both such character's appearance as well as her, her power, her hatred towards buddhism and her spellcards, I say it's pretty plausible. But then again, it's nothing confirmed, so I might just be over reacting, but it's a nifty bit.

However, if there was one only thing that I didn't like, it was that the extra stage wasn't related to the story AT ALL. Even if the temple is the gate towards the mausoleum, Nue and Mamizou are completely unrelated. Maybe Kogasa was a hint, but still. Gensokyo's lack of common sense at its best. Seems like wandering unrelated youkai can take over any stage (including extra) at any time. Oh well, as long as I'm having fun, I'll never get sleepy. (A cookie for whoever gets the reference).

Extra stages boss's last spell card are always hard and brutal. But Mamizou's last spellcard was easier. The main concern is, really hard to get extra life in this stage.

I know this was a while ago, but I thought I'd provide an answer anyway c: You unlock Extra mode by 1ccing the rest of the game, usually on Normal mode. I think in the later games that you can only do the extra stage as the character you completed the game as, e.g. if you cleared the game with Reimu A, you can only do the extra stage as Reimu A.

you know, I saw mamizou for the first time when I was a newbie. back then I though you had to not get hit once to unlock a new difficulty, there was always lunatic+ and talking to koishi caused insanity. also mamizu looked... scattered.

after a year of countless amounts of deaths and endless frustration I endured, I finally did it! I 1cc cleared TD! Not only did I clear this without losing my continue but It's also my first! though I have to confess I saved up my bombs for Miko and I basically spammed Master spark while fighting her, I was so close to losing! but after losing my last life and bomb I was finally able to take her down! now all I have to do is pass the Extra stage...but for now I'll celebrate Yay me!

ZUN calls this an extra boss? I think this is the first time that I have ever been disappointed at the difficulty of a boss from Touhou. Either you make it look a lot easier than it is, or I am sad to say that she belongs on Stage 4 in my personal opinion.
