I imagine Yukari as having a very cheerful personality and easygoing attitude. She enjoys messing around lightly with whomever she's interacting with, either by tweaking a border to make a practical joke or by leading a conversation into a situation where the other party will feel embarrassed, in doujins this tend to occur due to an intentional innuendo. Short: she's a very happy-go-lucky girl. However, she knows when things stop being laughing matter. When this situation arrives, you can see why she's an entity not to mess with. With the ability to manipulate borders in every sense of the word and an exceptionally bright and intuitive mind, defeating her in either brains or brawns proves an almost impossible task. Actually, my opinion on this fight is that Reimu is the better danmaku player, but has this been a real life or death fight, Yukari would have won. I mean, in Yukari vs Yuka doujin she

Normally a doujin recommendation would be here, but since my doujin collection are, hopefully, trapped inside my computer's hard disk, I can't recommend the best. Tohonifun's still holds the title for some of the best, if most incoherent works relating to Yukari and Ran Yakumo. I believe it would make sense if Yukari came from relatively humble beginnings while she learned to control her powers. Normally we see Yukari in her full glory even 1000 years before Gensokyo's creation. While not an absurd belief since we are talking about the Yukari that dealt with the human and highly unstable Yuyuko, it is nice to see some doujins that deal more with Yukari's older backstory, even if that backstory makes from little to no sense.
I remember the first time I saw Yukari was in IN. Back then I knew her as "that character dressed in white that appears randomly if I chose this team"
Fun times those, fun times. Then when I played IaMP, her status changed to "That one witch that warps time and space that I fight towards the end". It wasn't until I started going into forums, playing other games, and checking the wiki that I realized who exactly Yukari was. Since then, she has become one of my favorite characters, probably due to the aura of mystery she already has and the aura of mystery I added back when I saw her in IaMP as the "witch dressed in white and purple". Adding to that the fact that I first heard "Evening Star" before "Necrofantasia" helped a lot with the entire mysterious personality.
Conclusion: Yukari is awesome, period. Her fights are awesome, her personality is awesome, and her themes are awesome. Hell, I'm planning on doing a Lunatic SWR run with Yukari since fighting as her is like a run dedicated to humiliating your opponents over and over. Try running away from Iku's third spell and crouching while she closes in. Now tell me with a straight face Yukari is taking the fight seriously. Still, nothing tops what Yukari can do to Komachi. You'll see when I get my computer.

Personally, I feel that the "Necro" tracks are the theme of the Yakumo group (Chen not having a "Necro" theme... or should that be a "Neko" theme? ...because she isn't allowed to carry the Yakumo name yet) and "Night Falls ~ Evening Star" being Yukari's actual personal theme. But, yeah, even if the "Necro" themes are the themes of the Yakumo group as a whole, they're still remixed for each Yakumo and, much like how their names express the magnitude of their power, the themes are correspondingly more intense the higher up in the hierarchy you get.

I found out about this whole series during mid-March. I began playing and slowly and slowly got more used to seeing impossibility hit the screen. I do enjoy seeing your work on these games and hope to see you do the UFO Extra and the one for 10 Desires (when it comes out). I made the mistake of picking Mokou as my first EX fight. (given it was the only game I could 1cc Normal in at the time.) IN will always be my favorite because of that god-sent called Spell Practice. =) gl in the future

@Lostweed Quod Errad Demostratum ( a proof for a case, thae final one, if not wrong) Danmaku is, practically, what you see in all the video: Lost of bullets that, incrediblu, have a pattern. Some are extremelly hard to avoid, others are pretty easy, but in this case ( a boss fight), they are normally hard.

@raak1010 Those aren't mutually exclusive, though. Heck, in SSiB, Marisa even says that the most beautiful attack always wins. It's just that beautiful patterns tend to involve lots of bullets, hence they necessarily have high power.

I have heard that all of Yukari's spell card and Danmaku bullet, wasn't herself who dp it but it like an automatic program that shoot on it own. It like she just cast it out and let's it be. The last spell also seem like she don't want to cast anyspell anymore. She took some powerful boarder spell, cough Reimu in there and waiting for the result. Thank for vid. Most of your bombs don't move much since Yukari disappears if you bomb her during her spellcards, so the orbs have nothing to target and just float around you. Bombing works on her non-spellcards, just like for any Extra boss, so the orbs will slam into her then.

@OzixiThrill Actually, the term Bullet-Hell Hell does in fact work. It sounds weird, but makes logical sense. Bullet-Hell is a collective and proper noun, therefore, can still have adjectives. as weird as it is to repeat a word, there are sensible sentences that use the word "had" 3 times in a row. Had i had had that, i wouldn't have had a problem. Sorry for sounding like an english teacher.

@lsd4kush That's actually really easy. I've never used a bomb or lost a life on this particular attack. I'm not saying that I'm skilled, though (simply put, I generally suck at this type of game), but you can easily create a safespot during the beginning of the attack where you can safely stay put. I got really lucky and found this out on my first encounter with this spell.

It's kind of assumed her last name is Yakumo too but I guess she didn't really get a specified last name, being a shikigami's shikigami...odd as that is...notice how the only touhou characters without last names are fairly stupid? (Chen, Cirno, Kisume)

Good run, good run. Yukari is definitely my favorite boss in the series. Using Reimu A strikes me as a bit...masochistic, though. My first successful run was with Marisa A, and I imagine I'd have a horrific time with anyone else. Danmaku is all about power, ya know? Still, you finished with a life and a few bombs ahead of me, so maybe I should keep my mouth shut? I'll respectfully disagree on the music front. Necro-Fantasy blows both versions of Necrofantasia out of the water IMO.
