How to turn a 7 or 8 rib belt into a 6 for Multi-Alternator High Power Setups

See the previous video if you want to know how i made this quad alternator bracket. This is just a small update because the end of the last video i had too short of a belt. I actually ended up moving the idlers around so i didn't have to get a longer one after all. But i did put a brand new one on it and in order to do that, i have to turn it into a 6 rib belt. Why didn't i just BUY a longer 6 rib belt? They don't make 6 rib in this Gates Green Fleet Belt...these are the BEST. If you run multi alternators in your ride, this belt is a must.
Last January while i was in Vegas for CES, someone knocked my beloved hoe off of her life support. Usually she is good for about 4-5 days tops when not hooked up to the wall. I have 11 year old batteries under the bottom...and they have for sure taken abuse but as long as they were on their intellicharger by the end of the evening they did fine. This time though, i came home to about 2 volts. She has been sitting ever since. The shop is a VERY busy place so it is easy to ignore it and let it collect dust. But i couldn't take it anymore! Join me on this journey to revive my Hoe! The ORIGINAL hoe! The hoe that made you want a hoe for yourself!
Today i unboxed and fabbed up the bracket for my new Mechman 400a Alternators. It's ALMOST done! Just need a longer belt! What is a 6 Phase Alternator A standard alternator is generally 3 phase. This means that there are three “legs” of the stator that fire in succession as the alternator spins, A-B-C-A-B-C-A-B-C producing alternating current.
6 phase alternators have two 3 phase stators inside the alternator that are slightly out of phase of one another. The two stators fire in succession like this: A-a-B-b-C-c (the second stator is in lower case) Because they are slightly out of phase with one another, there is a cancellation of electromagnetic harmonics that makes the alternator run more smoothly and more efficiently. This allows for cooler operation, more output from a smaller overall housing, and MUCH better durability.
The rectifiers turns the AC current coming out of the stator into DC current. DC current is what is used in an automobile. By passing trough the diodes, half of the AC current is burned off in the form of heat as it is “rectified” into DC current. That heat is what eventually kills alternators. By having (2) rectifier plates, there is much more surface area to dissipate the heat. This is especially important in a high output alternator- as the more amperage the alternator makes, the more heat is generated. Also, by having (12) or (16) diodes (depending on which 6 phase alternator you are talking about) instead of just (6) or (8) diodes in a 3 phase alternator, the heat and electrical load can be distributed more evenly throughout the rear of the alternator housing.

It's simple. Cut as straight as you can and hope for the best. I have been doing this for 15 years. Ive gotten off track a few times but usually i am pretty straight. If you run more than 2 alternators in your ride, i highly suggest this green "Fleet" belt by Gates. I have never broken one. I usually change them when they get old before they wear out and keep it for a spare but i have never actually broke one. I can break a standard belt in a matter of minutes with a setup like this. They don't make the fleet belts in the length i need in a 6 rib hence the reason i have to do this. Thanks for watching my little mini-how too video! Ill have more on the Tahoe soon! Mechman may be right Steve hasn't applied a load to the alternators yet. It's also possible that Steve is not going to strain the alternators so they may not drag on the belt.

Nope, the same process here is the same process used in all power plants. This is as good as it gets with today's technology, plus efficiency is different from effective. In other words, it may look like a bit wasteful, but it's deceitfully efficient
