Great to see this reviewed... I have all the rare variants as I'm a big fan of the series... check out "Target Earth" on Genesis or "Assault Suit Leynos 2" on Saturn... one of the very affordable but great Japan-only games. Eventually I'll do a video on my collection. They actually sculpted this kit by hand, not computer-drafted like most of what's out there today.

They made a good remake for Assault Suit Leynos on PS4. Released across 2015-2016 in all regions.

I remember playing Target Earth on Sega Genesis back in 1990, The original name is assault suit leynos, in the genesis version this character's name is Rex.

Very good looking kit. Really nice suit design from the games. It's coming out in the US soon and it was a genesis game.

1/35 AS-5E3 Leynos Production Ver. looks almost like a spitting likeness of a gear from Heavy Gear. 1/35 ASS-177A Valken (Jake Custom) even appears to have a wheel build into the heel. Safe to say they drew inspiration from Heavy Gear so since DP9 doesn't make models other than an expensive Kodiak... I'd say grab this and mod it.

Really Late response but no, Assault Suit Leynos/Target Earth was released before the first Heavy Gear RPG book was published. If anything its makers would have been drawing their inspiration for the Gears from the Assault Suits. The source of inspiration for both teams was Armored Trooper Votoms.

actually my favourite Assault suit design is from the Assault Suit Valken2 (PsX/one)that the main character use.
