Damnnn Joe knows his history!! He is right with all the Sinla Gokuryu and Japanese ancestry in Korean history! And also Korea is such a fast developing country that every year is so different from the next! Ppl ‘s mindsets are also quickly developing as well and I hope it keeps going :) Thank you for the insightful podcast Joe,David and Mariel! -from a Korean native fan

Yes he is. I was reading it as well. And how Yamato are actaully more Korean than Japanese since ancient koreans mixed with I think yayoi joumon tribes. Though I will always be sad about the ainu and ryukyukan people. History is amazing but it ways has a darkside and then tends to repeat itself.

It takes going through some shit to gain thicker skin, stand up for yourself, and boost your own self esteem without needing validation from others. I still remember being bullied to oblivion from grade 4 to grade 11. In the beginning I used to just take it and not fight back much. As the years went by, when I did fight back I'd get suspended but the bullies would continue their shit anyway. It wasn't until when my whole grade 8 class stuck a "KICK ME" sign to my back that I broke down crying wanting to kill myself. I lived past that day and from grade 9 to grade 11 I stood up for myself always. I made sure to not back down ever but to be more careful about who I hung out with. The scars are still there but it has made me the person I am today so I can live with it.

Hey Joe, you're pretty knowledgeable! For clarification and simplicity. 12000 BC Jomon culture from northern Sakhalin route or from southern Taiwan/Polynesian route are probably ancestors to today's Ainu. (first Wave) 300BC to 250 AD- Yayoi peoples from continent brought wet rice cultivation. I think mostly from Korean southern states or China. (During BC Jin state exists in southern Korea along with Yemek , Okje peoples, Byonhan, Mahan and Gaya confederacy.) In northern Korea there was Buyeo and Gojoeson ( lit. old joseon). By 250 AD Korea already has Goguryeo (37BC) Silla (57BC), Baekje (18BC) (2nd wave) Gaya and Baekje already have a special relationship with Yamatai by this time. Gaya becomes world renowned for its iron ore and iron weapons and tools. Han China records this and we find similar armor and weapons in Japan (Kyushu) and Gaya region. Nihon shoki and Kojiki are the national chronicles of Japan written in 720 and 712 respectively. (Note: We need to separate mythological period and historical period. Everything up to Jingu's reign is mythological. And Ojin's reign (390-430 AD) not 270AD when in line with other historical records such as the Samguksagi (History of the 3 kingdoms of Korea), you have to add exactly 120 years or 2 sexagenery cycles to the dates found in the Nihon Shoki. Baekje in its wars vs Goguryeo and Silla requests military assistance from Yamato in the 5th century (400's). Baekje sends a Prince as a hostage. This is also at a time when Goguryeo is at its most powerful and is on a conquering spree under King Gwangaetto the Great. Goguryeo manages to repel the Chinese at least 3 times, for example. They had lands that cover all of North Korea (today) and all of Manchuria. By mid to late 600's the peninsula wars are still going on but this time, Silla emerges the victor because of their strategic alliances with Goguryeo early on but with Tang China which eventually topples Baekje in 660 and Goguryeo in 668. Baekje royalty are either sent to China, some stay in Korea and also many flee to Japan by this time. Japanese royalty welcomes them and many more Baekje peoples of all classes gets incorporated into Japan. The Nihon shoki for example, was written based on 3 Baekje historical sources but unfortunately they don't exist anymore. Another interesting thing was that the year 660 wasn't the end of Baekje. There were many countless ways remnants wanted to restore their kingdom even after the Tang occupation and even after Silla's eventual takeover. Baekje had an axe to grind against both Goguryeo and Silla and the Nihon shoki was not only a way to nationalize Japanese history but to tell a tale that unfavorably puts Silla and Goguryeo in a bad light.

Mariel's story reminds me of what I'm going through now. I moved to Taiwan two years ago to attend college and I'm in the same situation. I was really good friends with all the girls, but once I started befriending some of the guys, all the girls started hating on me. I don't know how Mariel was able to move on because sometimes it really hurts and it feels like no one cares. Thank you so much for sharing your story Mariel. I hope I will be able to move on like you and overcome this feeling of loneliness and sadness.

Mariel has inspired me to learn languages, instead of being lazy. Yo, I still get that to this day. As an adult. Like the same situation where the girls left me out of the picture. And it's so annoying bc my bf keeps urging me to be friends with them. I'm like "no, I'm just going to do my thing." I understand Mariel, I don't care but still talking about it. Lol

Honestly it's so rare to see such original animation films or series come out. You know, a style art style becomes popular and then all the studios get to scared to put out any different and what's amazing with that show was every single episode had its own art style and pushing animation in different ways. We need more of that.

This is how I felt when I moved to Michigan. Because I was a mixed Mexican-white-Nicaraguan girl they did not accept me. I was called mixed mutt, dirt, given racial slurs by hispanic people and later on white americans joined in because they thought it was okay because all the hispanics did it. I am blessed the Vietnamese students took me in. I went to temple, ate the food, learned the culture, and a bit of the language, and till this day im 25 and I consider it my culture idgaf if im hispanic. I love who I am, I do not consider myself Vietnamese, but ill be damned if someone talk shits about the group that raised me when everyone else ostracized me

I'm at 52:52 about work ethic and I agree. I was raised in a way that walked traditional and modern way of life for Filipino immigrants and I feel like how you guys do - I worked in a nursing home under a company and there were times i worked 7 days a week to part-time and regardless I worked my ass off so much. And I had people around my age who worked with me who are just nonchalant in their attitude and it frustrated me bc it in turn gave me so much more work. like how do you not put effort in? and we all are networking as we work here so people notice your work ethic. i dont get it at all lmao

"you feel like a man/somebody without a land.." That's so sad but true. I'm a first Generation Nepalese Indian in Delhi with a clear American accent; the North Indians clearly have history with the typical asian look, and going back home to Nepal was worse as people often looked at me with disgust because I looked like them but couldn't fluently speak the local languages.

One thing that annoys me about traditional jobs is a lack of free time. I can be the most efficient in whatever job I do but the second I smile, the managers I have think I’m messing around and not doing my job at all. Dude hearing this I realize I got mad lucky in school. I always got adopted by the nicest kid(s) in the grade, and had like 4-5 people to hang with. People called me names sometimes but it didn’t really make a difference bc I was never actually alone. In elementary school I just happened to get really close to a girl from like day one, who later became more popular. As a result I got dragged into the main group for a bit even though the rest of the popular girls didn’t like me as much 😂 Secretly hated them too.
