The fly fishing analogy instantly improved my pitching... it's all about stopping that front hand at the bottom of the swing and allowing the club to accelerate into the ball, creating a crisp blow while pivoting on the follow through. Easy and Awesome. Why did someone not tell me this 40 years ago. Thanks Stan Utley. Your the bomb!

I just found this to be so helpful. I was a single digit handicap, and have struggled for the last few months chipping. Went all the way to a 10 handicap because of my chipping. Stan breaks it down so simple where everyone else had so much bad advice that I was getting worse. Practiced what he said for 2 hours, and had 2 chips holed on my round yesterday. Shot the best round in a long time. Much Thanks for the video and Help.

I never heard of orange whip. But the (whippy) action described is something ive asked two coaches about, both of which poo pooed it, even though i get my best results this way. Ive looked for videos on youtube for ages about it. The closest ive come is you boys and Mark Crossfield. This is a revelation. Im SO excited that this movement and the associated chest / body turn has so much recognition that it has its own training aid. Thanks Lads, Much appreciated. P.s. apologies to Stan, unfortunately i wont be needing the Training aid, ive got that move down. :)

I just watched another KZbin video with the main idea being to keep the club handle moving through the shot. This one tells me to keep the handle quiet and focus on the club head. Both very respected teachers. Conclusion: There's no one correct way to do anything, it's what you've mastered.

The basic swing to hit the ball straight can be learned from KZbin. Curving, creating spin and hitting the ball almost flawlessly every swing you definitely need lessons. Knowing what club to use. That takes time with experience. Everyone has different strength. After more experience you will notice how much power to use to try to get in hole. for example from 30 yards if your in a bunker the rough or fairway

Thanks as always for more great content! Quick question, would what Stan teaches here go against using something like the DST Compressor? I'm new to the game and trying not to get confused or learn bad habits. Thanks again and great work!
@meandmygolf.7 жыл бұрын
For the long game Luis the compressor is great yes and we want the shaft leant forward. What Stan is talking about here is having less shaft lean at impact to expose the bounce more so may be slightly different to the DST. That doesn't mean that that won't work either. You have to try it out and experiment to see which works best for you.

To those who were lost by this video, he was trying to say in simple terms that if you swing your wedges and chip shots(when using your wedge) with a very shallow approach into the ball then the club will slide under the ball more consistently verses trying to chop at the ball with a more vertical swing which has less room for error. Think Slide, not dig!

Love u guys and your videos. As a location sound professional. I'd love to help you out the same way u help me. It was a windy day yes. But if u buy rycote under covers. And stick them chest area under the jacket or directly on the skin. Those layers will protect the audio from wind. Also. Ur recording the vocals quite hot. It's much nicer on cheap electronics on cameras to record on manual audio and record lower. Recording hot or high like u have gives it a very edgy sound. In post production raising the levels with a limited is very easy and without the risk of distortion like u have. Ur videos will have a professional touch no matter the wind conditions. Can't wait to see more videos!

Great video guys! Question: How do i make my bunker shots be more consitent
@jamocleasby77807 жыл бұрын
I stare at a small point in the sand just less than an inch behind the ball, and try to hit that spot, makes sure you take sand. Also, don't be scared to swing at it, because you're not making direct contact with the ball, it's kinda like fatting the shot, you need more clubhead speed to get a fat shot to go farther
@fashionflixuf36257 жыл бұрын
Thanx man
@mikerodrick24307 жыл бұрын
After you dig your feet into the sand, you're actually below the level of the ball, in a greenside bunker, which, if you were standing on the ground would cause a fat shot. That's exactly how a bunker shot works. You don't have to worry about hitting behind the ball. Being lower than the ball makes it happen naturally. Just make sure you dig your feet into the sand, keep your lower body still, & be sure to swing thru the shot, just like any other. Don't let the club stop in the sand.

I think people forget that at the end of the day you’re trying to get a little ball in a hole not have the perfect swing. Yes i agree if you’re thinning chips or chunking them you need a lesson, but if you’re hitting them ok with a bit of check then just stick with it and practice with that

This video is very confusing for me.. If I recall properly, it even goes against with one of your videos about chipping the ball high, medium and low with the same wedge.. 🤔
@meandmygolf.7 жыл бұрын
Hi Leonardo. What Stan is saying is that he wants a flatter bottom to the swing. The other video which you are talking about still has a flat bottom, the grip is just slightly leaning more forward with the lower one.

I love some of the content in that DVD, but I don't agree with him (Phil) when he states "There is only one way to chip effectively". Hinge/Hold method works great, but there are many methods other top players use simply due to personal preference past and present.

My golf pro told me to get my sternum ahead of the ball at impact and open the face of my wedge. In order, the sternum trick puts the low point of the swing ahead of the ball, and the open face of the wedge gives me more access to bounce. Since I'm prone to chunking chip shots, I did that and added one trick of my own.: I stopped laser-looking at the ball; now, I look down at my forward thigh. Sounds strange, right? The truth is that if my hands arrive in good position at my thigh, the club head arrives in good position at the ball. That doesn't mean I don't see the ball; I do, but I'm not fixated on it. In plain English, I've abandoned a narrow field of view and embraced a widened field of view. Works for me.
@meandmygolf.7 жыл бұрын
Definitely better to use your Peripheral vision when playing these shots Chester we agree. take tension out and allows for a smoother motion.

You guys are the best and most articulate of the internet coaches. I'm glad that you have taken to support a product because that "Orange Wedge" looks like it could be helpful. Finally, I picked up a tip from Martin Hall: he said, "Aim (focus your eyes) on the foremost dimple of the ball in relation to the target." This would be the direct opposite of his advice for a driver, "See the back of the ball when you hit the driver." I tried Martin's advice at the range with the wedge, and I hit a pure strike. I was stunned. I thought for sure that I'd skull the ball, but I didn't. I'd never have come up with that myself in a 1000 years. Leave it to Martin. I guess that's why he's been teaching at Ibis for the last Century.

@coreylesseig24437 жыл бұрын
Not sure you are understanding the use of the term "release" here. Obviously, one must release the club on every shot including a putt. With Stan, it is a question of how the club is released, not whether it is released that separates his theory and practice.
