Price of Glory and similar effects are the opposite of mean. It prevents counterspells and other instant speed shenanigans, which in my opinion are the most nasty things in casual EDH.

Everybody that says they haven't seen craterhoof hard cast I always find myself wishing they could play a game with me. I would make the dream come true for them. Doing it for 16 mana would only be inconvenient because it would limit what follow up plays I could make after casting it, but not enough to stop a big ass play 🤣

Fun fact: Tidal control has a few best friends in blue instants that allow you to change any instance on one colour word with another. Oftentimes, these effects don’t end at EOT, so if you pair that with the knowledge of whatever your opponents are playing, you can shut down players selectively.

DJ, when it comes to Sunder, you're thinking Little...WAY too little Sunder while there is a Teferi's Puzzle Box in play, now THAT is mean Now if you want degenerate combos, I got some good ones Hive Mind with Warrior's Oath or other cards similar to it, and watch as your opponents scramble to win knowing that is their last turn before losing Asceticism + Dismiss Into Dream = The Simic Laser gun, keep your defenses up while using Asceticism's Activated ability to target your opponent's creatures Grip of Chaos

Time Sifter triggers during EVERY upkeep, including those during extra turns, and that's why turns essentially become random, and unlucky players will never get a turn. Just a clarification for anyone confused by this, as I was. Definitely interesting when combined with any other extra turn effects, such as Emrakul, Time Warp, or even something like Mind Slaver.

I put it in my Estrid deck and my favorite strategy is stealing the most useful spell, then following up with the "destroy all creatures that aren't enchanted" card. Because my creatures are all enchanted and i do not enchant chimera ever, it dies. Just play spells that do not care who casts it

I'm looking to "improve" my Jhoira of the Ghitu deck and I want all the mean stuff in there, but to counterbalance the cruelty, I'm chucking in a bunch of chaos spells, such as my beloved Timesifter. (Vegas time baby) Ice Cave too! Goodluck countering my high CMC spells Possessed portal is working well in my Muldrotha deck simply because, I don't have to draw any cards. Sunder is my usual wincon in Tatyova. I can win through LabMan....but the games over on Sunder. Usually endstep Cyclonic Rift, Sunder on my turn, Mana Breach. I have never lost with this deck. Currently only pull it out a few times a month.

Thank you, this is the first comment I've seen regarding the situation of this card that isn't out right biased. I'm not going to condone the artist's personal beliefs; but at least he chose a thematic art piece which, by visual example, brings attention to the real life history of forcing hardships on others of a different color, thusly fitting the card's premise in the process. Tutoring is not card draw, so it gets around Zur's Weirding and Notion Thief. Also, Brainstorm does not combo with Notion Thief, either, since it causes the caster to draw, not "target player."

Ice Cave is an easy slot in Mishra, Artificer Prodigy. Mishra remains one of the meanest decks in commander. Especially if you aren't limited by your budget (Nether Void, anyone?).

I think Storm Cauldron should be on this list because it's a mean card disguised as a nice card. "hey guys, everyone gets to play a extra land each turn...oh, but when you tap lands for mana they get bounced back to your hand." I've had a storm cauldron go unchecked in my Lord Windgrace/lands matter/landfall list. It slowwwweeeddddd the game way down buying me time to find my Omnath, locus of rage....and gave me 20+ additional landfall triggers. Cut it from the list immediately after that game lol The rest of the table wasnt as amused as I was.

How about Boiling Seas, the ultimate blue player hate? 3 and a red to destroy all islands. This is one of those cards where the mono-blue control player taps out (maybe they've just been countering everything indiscriminately) and it annihilates their board state by stripping their mana base out from under them. Incredibly evil card when compared to other land hate like Blood Moon or Zo-Zu.
