I was just thinking that you could go and get a cheap home security camera system. You can get them for less than $200.00, plus they are usually 4-channel and they come with 2 to 4 wireless cameras, and a DVR recorder. You could mount a camera facing forward on each leading edge, have one for backing up, and one sitting on a mast, so you could watch from above. You can even record the whole thing. Just an idea.

For the past week I though this was MY IDEA! I didnt want to search online for others because I wanted to think things through without inspiration from others. Now I have a look and by no means was this my idea at all... BUT Im planning to take things a step beyond and include FPV (first person view) from my quadcopter extras and use my FPV goggles as well. So once the more is started I can go inside and control my mower from a comfy chair. Might even put the image on the big screen and make a game of it! I applaud your creativity and although my need for this is due to laziness, your solution is inspirational.

My brother is in a chair, 15 years last Friday actually, and this was great inspiration for me to build one. He works on his '67 Camaro himself as well as many other things but the yard has been a bit difficult until this. I just finished it and will be showing him soon. Thanks a lot for your time and effort showing us how it's done. Only thing I am trying to change is I want the controls to be left stick to left motor and right stick to right motor like a zero turn.
@MeantToBeLindseyB
@MeantToBeLindseyB 2 жыл бұрын
That’s awesome! And you can totally do that! You need to purchase a “centering spring” for the left stick of the remote if you’re using the same flysky model we are using. You would use channel 2 and channel 4 of the remote receiver instead of 1 and 2. Then you need to make sure you’re using the correct settings in the setup of the DIP switches on the motor driver. (You need to ensure mixed mode is off). Let us know how it works when you get it running!

correction at 16:18, it is a brake mounted to stop the flywheel when you let go of the bar. It has no connection to the spark plug in any way except for stopping the flywheel, it doesn't break any connection like a switch. that model actually has a set of gears to push the brake against the flywheel, i also have that piece still sitting in my toolbox too now that i think bout it. the wonders of being a hoarder, LOL. actually after editing this a couple of times i see them when you were moving the arms back and forth . im sorry i had to correct you on that, its just i had that exact engine and i stripped it down. and im not trying to dis or put down your project, i actually think that this is a great idea and i congratulate you on the idea.

I built an RC mower that was twin blade and used parts from an old wheel chair I got for free from a mobility shop. latter I found out on of the people that worked there was in a wheelchair himself and at the time I didn't thing of the fact that simple chores we take and hate for granted are all most impossible for someone bound to a wheelchair. so when I finished the project I returned to the place they gave me the free parts and gave the controller to said fellow and a tear fell down my cheek as I seen him light up with joy that he could do such a simple chore with ease. it it awesome to see people doing these things and sharing it with others.

Nice build it gave me a few new ideas. The big spring you removed is used on a flywheel brake to stop the blade faster. Another thing you may want to add is a kill switch attached to a bar across the front so if it hits something like a curious kid it will completely shut down before it runs over a foot, cat, a small dog or anything else. Great video have a great one.

Maybe a " bumper mechanism" off like a robo vac or something heavier I think a regular kill switch would get crushed when it hit something harder and disable the whole unit. Yes i know the value of life VS a switch argument But why work harder and more $ when you can work smarter ? .

If you want to get away from the gasoline and carb maintenance. Run it off propane! I just converted one over using 1lb propane bottle, a regulator off a table top grill , a section og hose and a couple brass fittings. Starts faster, runs better and cleaner and no gummed up carb. Love your videos i rewatch them often.

@@MeantToBeLindseyB try and find a regulator off one of those small grills that has the adjustable knob to regulate the flame that way you wont need a inline valve, Also get a brass 90 elbow and drill a hole the size of the end if brass in air filter cover directly over carb leave filter in , Now attach brass to cover ( How i did mine is i drilled a hole big enough in end of brass for a quick pin or cotter pin i put the brass thru , then a large flat washer and the cotter pin ) Attach your hose from that to the regulator, empty gas from mower, To start turn on gas at regulator untill you can just about hear it. Should start on first or second pull. Your RPM is now regulated buy your propane regulator. Just find the mowers sweet spot. Good luck

I'm an automation engineer, I travel the world automating factories with my ingenuity. I say "ingenuity" instead of intelligence, it takes both, but I work with some of the most talented engineers around. BUT they are not the vision, many times I have to rely on them for the calcs and things where I fall short. Let me say to you: CONGRATULATIONS on an AMAZING well thought out, executed machine. I logged in, because I wanted to learn from your automation. It's not about learning from only "the smartest people" learning, is about learning from EVERYBODY. This is NOT directed at you, but I have always said, "i can learn something (maybe / probably) (at least I try) even with the most inexperienced people who I am there to train. My goal is to learn something, from, EVERYBODY, no matter how simple. It just keeps making me smarter, and KZbin, other than the asshole trolls on here, is a great place to start. You can make a LOT of money doing this kind of work Lindsey. Start advertising some of your "inventions" don't worry about "patents" most not worth the powdered to blow them up. All someone has to do is change the slightest thing and you are screwed, it's a hole you don't want to go down. Start selling your items, keep polishing them up as you go. I have many invnetions that I've sold for almost as much as I do now, and they are VERY ROUGH, but they work, JUST FINE. Those same ones today are very polished and make me look good. but those early customers didn't care, they just wanted me to save them labor. Your audience "might be" the incapacitated, HOWEVER, there are plenty of people like myself who might have fun purchasing such items as well, or even older people. So its hard for me to say. but ltitle by little, start adding items. All of my items came, when people requested I custom build something for them. 50% UP FRONT I give them a GUARANTEE it will perform as outlined in the agreement. They get a VIDEO and high rez photos, and any other documentation to satisfy themselves when I am done. 50% BEFORE it ships. I'm always paid UP FRONT before it is released. Even when it is $1 million usd, I'm not the bank. When they say, "we'll find someone else if you won't" I tell them, "Please do." (THAT almost never happens, when it does they always come back.)

Hi! Thank you for taking the time to leave such an encouraging message. My husband (Wes) wanted to create this, so I wanted to give him the space to share it. With he and I both being wheelchair users, we immediately thought that if he could create something like this then it would be such a quality of life thing for us personally. I/we would love to do something amazing and special with this project. We have some cool ideas. I've just been scared to venture out into the "business" side of it all, so I love your input. I find it extremely valuable because we aren't nearly as experienced as you (and some of the other viewers out there).
@brentbarnhart5827
@brentbarnhart5827 3 жыл бұрын
@@MeantToBeLindseyB Well, one thing that I caution would be safety in your creations. I don't really deal with "joe homeowner" I do deal with "joe operator" but they also are under the care of a corporation with rules, bosses, and guidance to keep them "out of danger" as well. HOWEVER, I have a responsibility to make sure I've protected them as much as possible. I'm not sure what all liability you could get into with a self propelled lawnmower, if somebody would buy one, lose control and run over the neighbors kids foot. THAT would be my personal worry on just "that" invention. But your husband seems to have a knack or working knowledge of such things, and could easily put that to work in many other things. From helping companies automate their lighting, to whatever. I was looking to modify an electric wheelchare as my "tool cart." Something I could comfortably sit down on in factories, and easily "tool around on" that also had a small area for my tools, and a place to mount my computers. I just bought a used, very small, but heavy made cushman work cart, to eventually modify a little. I just simply couldn't find the wheelchair parts and such to make such an item. You guys probably know "all the haunts" to find those motors, and parts, and to be able to rebuild chairs, deck them out, etc. etc. So I'm not sure how to advise, or even if you have any desire TOO do such a thing, but all he would need to do, is spend some time, come up with various idea, narrow them down to the best, and the best, and the best. And start to assemble them, some prototypes, and slowly get going. I have some GREAT ideas, I don't sell much of. Other ideas are GOOD, and they REALLY took off, and I didn't expect it because the field is HUGE. I can tell him great ways to manufacture custom parts, and cheap / quick vendors, and cheap ways, to draw them up digitally. If he so wanted. I do travel worldwide a lot, but I could easily work and never leave my farm. (Which that is the case for many months out of the year, it just depends on what I'm contracted for at the time.)

Excellent build. Only changes I would've further considered is to make sure to mitigate rusting of its components by using galvanized bolts/screws, nuts and etc (assuming you already didn't do that), and also I would've secured a plastic protective housing (aka gladware with a top cover) on the wooden board and then placed the electronic components inside the gladware and passed the wires through hole(s) in the top cover and/or the gladware itself. I would chock a cut up piece of plastic bag in the hole with the wires, to keep the interior of plastic housing dry and to keep the electronic components dry and rustproof and protected from effects of the weather. Alternatively, instead of using the cut up piece of plastic bag, I could insteas use a rubber gasket placed in the holes for passing the wires to also achieve the weatherproofing function too. With that said, great job man, keep it up.

Awesome build, sir. Consider running it on propane. Yes, the little green bottles mine runs very well 3-4 mows per bottle it only got two mows per tank of gas and is much quieter and smells like a forklift you'll need is a regulator I used one from a deepfryer with an adapter for green bottles one end is the bottle the other end goes thru the aircleaner box almost to the carb intake that's it in a nut shell my mower didn't have a adjustable throttle just run and off now it does the gas regulator knob

As long as the generator is good enough, you should be able to power the motors off the engine. It'll reduce fuel efficiency by increasing magnetic drag on the generator, but it'll work.

Regarding battery life: You may be able to use a single U1 Battery. It's about 12v 35Ah battery. You could probably turn the battery 90 degrees and place it centered behind the engine.The extra battery weight may even help with wheel traction. Since your electronics are on a piece of wood, You could probably mount that on top of the U1 battery. It's just a thought. I love your simple, quick and easy design. Almost anyone can do it. I would love to see all the add on you mentioned too. This is the exact mower that many people need ! Thanks for sharing :-)

Well done! I did something similar in 1988. You covered all the issues very well. I put casters on the front at the outset. It worked well. My only suggestion is to mount the battery behind the drive wheels. This will take weight off the front wheels and allow them to pivot and it will increase traction on the rear. Good luck and have fun!
