MEASURING AND ADDING RUFFLES TO MY HANKIE CUSHION

I'm making my vintage hankie cushion cover even MORE frilly by adding a sweet ruffle. In this video I demonstrate how I measure, cut and make a lovely 3x ruffle! :)

The yellow stripe is just lovely! And the stripe seems to enhance the ruffly-ness! So pretty! It reminds me of daffodils in the springtime! 🌼🌷☀️

Amazing! I always thought you had to use a gathering stitch. That’s how I used to make my dresses but, then sometimes the thread would break or I couldn’t get it even. That looks beautiful the way you did it. Love it!

I really love how you try to do something “unexpected” in your projects! I have adopted that same concept now whenever I make a quilt. I try to chose a border or a binding that is unexpected. Or throw in an unexpected color. It has really been fun and makes for much more interesting and unique quilts! Thank you for the inspiration! I also always remember your suggestion that putting a bit of white in your quilts adds a touch of sparkle! It’s so true! I added a bit of white to my last quilt that was looking a bit “flat” and voila! The white was just what it needed!💫✨ Thanks for all you do!

The cushion is soooo pretty. I have an attachment that actually does ruffles on my machine. It will do a fold ever stitch or every 6 stitches or every 12 stitches and it can be put on a 'star' setting where it dosen't gather at all. I have had it many years and hardly used it. But it will be perfect to make a cover just like yours. Thank you Jean. Love to Ian and Maxwell.

Thank you Jean. Your pillow is beautiful! My Gram taught me to make my ruffles at least 2.5 to 3 times the area needed. "If you are going to add ruffles, you want them to make a statement."..was her training. I can't wait for the doilie tutorial. I have had so many passed on to me.

I love the yellow stripe ruffle! I discovered the ruffler foot this year and it is a game changer! You can ruffle the entire length of your fabric in seconds and then just pin it on. You should give it a try. So easy! 😊❤

The pink stripes fabric is on a weaker shade for the hankie. The first backing fabric you have chosen is also my choice, less busy and has more white to enhance the rich design on the hankie. Just as a suggestion, if you plan to make something out of the yellow stripes and the vintage yellow cluster flowers, that would look superb, Jean. I am very much of a stripes, dots and floral girl. I can see that you must be the same, YAY! The fullness of the ruffle is beautiful. The cushion looks beautiful in your yellow painted wall. Oh Jean, I was wrong. I thought you chose the very first backing fabric with dots and red/pink cluster flowers. That looks lovely too, but I do like the last choice of backing fabric. That itself would also make a beautiful cushion cover with the stripes fabric for ruffles. I just looked up Heather Bailey's fabric, she has beautiful collection of True Kisses fat quarters fabric, Hmmmmmm ❤ Thelma.

I truly love this pillow and your backing fabric is perfect! I used the same fabric with a sage green with white polka dots for a table runner for a dear friend. I have most of my mom’s vintage hankies, (I’m 68) so you can figure out how old they are. I pick them up whenever I see them.

It's a Fiskars Rotary Cutter Ruler combo that I got from Amazon. But I believe that Joann fabrics has them also

Jean, I’m curious.. Do you use your two ruler method of cutting fabric and cut on the other side because you had that bad rotary blade accident and cut you finger really badly?

So true!! When that happened (21 years ago) I was scared off of Rotary cutters but continued to use them CAUTIOUSLY. However when I found the Fiskars cutter/ruler I figured out the 2 ruler method to get really exact cuts without coming near a blade!! I still do use a rotary cutter for other projects but for the most part love my FISKARS:)
