This is a good example on what a show off, (in a good way) Meat Loaf was/is. He was told that there was no way you can sing all the words in this song. He actually put pauses in. Like "with her (pause) white plastic belt". Made it so much easier for us "Eddies" to sing after him.

It's interesting to hear the audience laughing at all the right points; the Broadway production has such a horrible reputation having closed so quickly that it makes me wonder why, since the audience seemed to enjoy it.

Latte Cat Which is weird, since it received a lot of praise in Los Angeles and the U.K. And a lot of stars went to watch the Rocky Horror Show during its LA run (Meat Loaf met Elvis after a show). You'd think with its reputation, it would've done a lot on Broadway.

Rumor has it "Rocky" wanted the Village Gate where Let My People Come was a New York phenomenon and not going to close, so they tore up the Belasco's orchestra to make it a cabaret. Similarly Let My People Come wanted the Roxy in LA but settled for the Whiskey Au Go Go. I think by the time Rocky Horror hit NYC there had been a number of successful drag and horror parodies and the critics were not impressed. Just bad timing. A year earlier,or later in a real cabaret space it would have been a success.

It could have just been the time. Maybe the USA in the 70's wasn't ready for such a show that was so sexualized?

This would've done wonders on Broadway originally if it weren't for the tasteless critics. It's a shame it had to close so soon. The audience sounded like they were enjoying it, as well! At least we can all enjoy it in a totally different and more unique way.

Heya it's awesome you found something special I'm a 73 born single parent houso adult who loves rocky horror picture show all everything about if I don't know it is fictional rumours. It's my saviour from dying at the end of heroin overdose . When I was a 16yr old easily and socially responsible for looking after my own dinners for myself and my narcissistic 17 yr brother who manipulated my desperate fear of my mum and letting see I wasn't equipped all to take care if my anxiety of being able to recognise I wasn't mentally stable and feared her realise that I'm so fucking frightened of my brother who was mentally retarded however him being nearly an adult he had mental age a 15yr old Sneaky inept socially sick and could make her believe anything he fed her. Mum the one I saw about 1hr in day school week I cooked for him cleaned for her so all chores became mine cause the roster changed daily and he was able to make sure he got credit for his 75% of compulsory jobs to help her make enough to feed and school us I fucken used lay awake at night and standover and stabbing with a giant butchers knife and lucky stopped before my hatred of his violent painful mental painful physical bashing regularly to force his twisted authority his own flesh and blood. He got very lucky. I let him know that I'm killing it's coming someday. I forgave eventually o never recovered. He was shot dead 2015 !! 14/11/15.. so I guess he got punishment sadly I'm totally fucking grief strikes and it killed my mum . She is living but she hates me I believe and it's living with her and feeling should shoot a gram of smack and let her die and outlive her children . Is that karma or just poetic justice . Rhps will be my survival track and my death music I'm OK it's not scaring me it's guilt that's taking my plan so long to complete !🎶🎵🇿🇦💉♥️🤣😤👹💔👍👀🎥🎬🧨❄🌏🌌🎵🎷🤾🥶🥶

Have a listen to the Roxy LA cast album, it permeates all the arrangements: Science Fiction, Dammit Janet, Sword of Damocles, Touch-A Touch-A Touch Me, and Eddie's Teddy all have much more of a "doo wop" arrangement. While some things improved for the film, I am now thinking the arrangements were watered down.

An amazing find! Thank you so much for posting. If I had one slight quibble it's that it sounds like the "Hot Patootie" portion is played at a slightly too-fast speed. Am I just imagining that?
@MostIngenious9 жыл бұрын
No need to be rude! In fact I've seen and performed in many many shows. I mean the TAPE sounds like its playing back too fast.
@PetProjects20119 жыл бұрын
Martin Hennessee I don't think its played fast, I think the arrangement of the song was just a lot faster for the US stage play. Remember, Richard O'Brien initially wanted the song fast but the original performer couldn't sing it right so it was rearranged. Meat Loaf was able to sing it at the speed O'Brien wanted. For the movie though I think they did slow down the tempo a bit.

I'm pretty sure he was singing like that on purpose. He didn't sound like that when he sang the "for the thrills" line during the Floor Show. (It didn't really sound beautiful either.) I have mixed feelings about that rendition of Hot Patootie. On the one hand, the voice was terrible, but on the other, it gives me the image of a zombie breaking into song.
