That is Steve Margoshes at the piano. I was on stage with Meat in the workshop performances. Indescribable experience. This was the first full Steinman song he sang in front of an audience and we all knew it was magic and historical. He did no "acting" of this at all. He just channeled it from some sacred place. (Of course he knew just what he was doing instinctively--instantly creating the most unbelievably electric connection with the audience --which was probably about eighty people in a very small black box theater at the NY Shakespeare Festival Public theater.)

Damn shame no suits came to rescue these 2! 4 long years! I mean Queen and Prog rock was big so confused by the indifference although it was a unique blend of theatre and singersongwriter rock. BTW his voice was at its strongest...wow I've never heard such power. That vibrato...whew

This is an interesting version. He is less theatrical here than on the album version. He definitely came into the more operatic meat laof after this. It think he sounds great here but he is more recognizable singing it the way he does on the album.

NO ONE IN THE WORLD SINGS AS WELL AS MEATLOAF. I sit alone and listen and listen and listen to him sing this. What a PERFECT voice....and I hear his modesty and humbleness about himself and his talent is even more PERFECT. MEATLOAF, you have ruined all the chances for all the rest of the men in the world. I would rather have one kiss from you than a lifetime with a man coming in second place.

So much better than the album version. After Bat 1 (besides his voice never being quite the same) he tried to hard to sound operatic and meaningful and for me, very few of his songs sounded good. Most other versions of songs he did after that sound better when sung by others, such as nowhere fast, or any of those he covered from Pandora’s box.

Meatloaf permanently damaged this fantastic voice allready on the first tour with Bat out of hell. He was still a fantastic singer capable of breathtaking performances for many years, but today he must be in total denial. I can't listen to him anymore. Very sad.

How do you mean? He has sounded stunning every year since he started singing.

It certainly was worth the pain!! Still enjoying him!! Although he lost some of the high notes, of course!
