Rory is a great singer that does justice to Jim’s songs. Jim as said is easily the greatest songwriter. There is no comparison. With the first few notes it’s obviously Steinman.

I talked to Rory Dodd on the phone a lifetime ago. I asked him the question that every Steinmaniac wants to know: Why didn't he make it big? Why didn't he achieve fame, given his truly amazing voice/talent. His answer was simple: He was just a regular personality, a singer. He didn't have a "catch." He didn't have a "gimmick" to offer, a hook for the general listening public. I saw his point, and appreciated his unparalleled gift that much more for it.

just heard a Steinman interview where he said he broke a grand piano at one of the venues when they were first touring, the keys flew out and the string broke and he thought it was hilarious' to the shock of those who were supposed to play it in the following act... you can hear him absolutely smashing the piano in this. He said he was known for really hitting the piano hard!

Steinman is able to tear your heart apart with his "power chords". Never heard such kind of passion. Never heard such kind of a masterpiece. He can beat you and caress you only in two notes. Nobody can give the right sound to the lyrics like Rory. This song is a special one, and this is how I imagine heaven would sounds like.

Vaults of Heaven Lyrics In the still of the night I could follow the angels to the vaults of Heaven By the grow of the night As a million stars are shining on the rim of the sky Tear the curtains aside And my eyes are burning brightly through the vaults of Heaven Lost to the world and alone I'll be soaring through an endless dream and free As the planets collide I can ride upon the winds into the vaults of Heaven Where the spirits reside I'll be gliding on the currеnts of the breath of the gods In thе arms of all time I can hear my heartbeat pounding in the vaults of Heaven Lost to the world and alone I'll be soaring through an endless dream and free Lost to the world and alone I'll be soaring through an endless dream and free In the still of the night I could follow the angels to the vaults of Heaven By the grow of the night As a million stars are shining on the rim of the sky Tear the curtains aside And my eyes are burning brightly through the vaults of Heaven Lost to the world and alone I'll be soaring through an endless dream and free

Every now and again you find these great unknown tracks where you wonder why everyone in the world doesn't already know them by heart. Would have been an amazing song for any of Jim's collaborators to release, but I always wondered why there was no sequel to Bad for Good, and why we didn't here more from Rory. Very Broadway sort of sound. Rory Dodd's voice here resembles Mandy Patinkin's best moments on the "Evita" cast recording. Patinkin would almost certainly be my choice for this number if organizing a Steinman tribute.
