I'm so glad I found your chanel! I'm getting a puppy in a few months so I'm educating myself as much as I can to give pup the best arrival and life as possible. I knew about raw feeding for a while now, probably a few years and I always thought it was one of the best things you could feed your carnivorous pet, but I innocently thought that I'd be very expensive... when in fact.. it's cheaper than the best kibbles I found in my country- so Ownat, Wolfood and Carnilove. Honestly when I learnt that I was shocked but so happy!! I now know I'll be able to afford raw feeding to my future doggo and it is such a wonderful feeling. And then I went on youtube and you were on my recommandations because I already watched a tone of videos about raw feeding (but in french xD) and MAN. Thank you KZbin!! Your videos are so helpful! I genuinely find it odd that they feed the cows grain in the USA because either the grass is ruined or they have so many of them packed into small land that grass cannot grow. US meat also can’t be sold around many parts of the world because there’s something wrong with it. There’s a few documentaries that you should look at and see if we should be concerned as pet owners feeding US beef etc to the dogs based on its high potency of farm medicine, antibiotics and bacteria concentrations

Hey there, Thank you for the amazing and very informative content, all over your videos. Just if I may, specifically with regards to this video, I would like to emphasize that EU regulations, when it comes to farming, and especially raising animal for consumption, is many fold more strict and restrictive than the US one: no hormones, no massive and continuous antibiotics, no bleaching and, of course, no animal proteins are allowed in their food since the 80s, all of which are strictly forbidden (and animal welfare is, as well, much more regulated in the EU than any other part of the world). So, the meat coming from the EU is undeniably safer, per all accounts, than US's or any other country.
@PawsofPrey
@PawsofPrey 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for bringing this up. It was something I did want to add in for a little contrast, but I didn't want to make things confusing for the viewer. I can't stand the US factory farm industry. I do agree the animals raised in the EU are undoubtedly healthier when compared to factory farmed animals here in the US. Hormones and antibiotics are certainly something I frown upon with store-bought meat, which is why I try to source locally raised meat as much as I can. I mainly brought this up because even though the rearing of these animals before slaughter is less than ideal, the meat is still properly inspected and deemed safe for consumption, and the diet of commercial swine is also regulated, which has caused trichinella findings to significantly drop. With the free trade market I just wasn't confident in what all goes on as far as regulating things like this!
@axldmg1481
@axldmg1481 3 жыл бұрын
@@PawsofPrey Hello. First I want to thank you very much for responding so diligently and carefully. I'm glad I'll be able to reassure you then as diet of swine (and every other animal raised for consumption) is strictly regulated as well, and veterinary controls are systematic when the animals are brought to the slaughter house. Besides these controls are doubled when exporting the meat out of the EU (free trade is definitely not unregulated, which is good news for everyone :D). On another topic, I wanted to ask you please : how many times a day do you feed your cat??

The mercury thing - perhaps it's because you're American, but the way we measure this is to make sure, as far as possible, that the fish comes from the North sea; nearer Denmark as possible, where, regardless of the species, there is less mercury poisoning. Might be harder for Americans to source this (compared to UK where I am), just due to geographical distance.

He previously had so many ear and skin infections (pyoderma), problems with his urine, and overall lower energy, his eyes looked darker and now that he is on RAW diet his bones have developed so strong, NO skin infections, and a amazing change is his mood/demeanor. He is so much happuer and can play hourse longer than his kibble fed siblings (learned this from a play date at 5 mo). Some spinach or a a piece of carrot or a tbs of can pumpkin.. For dinner about 4oz of ground beef, chicken breast or any cheap good meat for him? For bone requirement a one chicken neck? Don't know how many ounces of beef or chicken liver, a couple of pieces? Maybe 2 small sardines? Like 1/4 cup of goat milk maybe? Been reading a lot and I do have an idea just don't know how many ounces of what to give him or what to give him? I know I have to give him about 1.7lbs of food for the whole day which I will split in two meals which is about 0.8lbs per meal. And this is where iam having problems of how many ounces of muscle meat per meal, bones ( do bones in chicken count as bone requirement)? How many ounces of liver, hearts, gjizzards? I have 2 large breeds on raw, one is a year old puppy and a 4 year old. DO NOT feed cooked or smoked bones. We stay away from pork and beef bones as they are too dense. Stick with raw hollow bones from chicken or turkey. We feed them twice a day and stay away from feeding a bunch of carbs or oils. Dogs don't need carbs. If you do only use groundmeat, you must supplement with bone meal. If not, the body will pull it from itself, not good. Typical examples: meal 1 is just a chicken quarter Meal 2: couple chicken gizzards, 2 or 3 livers, 2 chicken feet, sardine, few pieces frozen green bean, 3 oz ground turkey or turkey neck. Meal 3: ground beef, beef heart, tongue, liver, canned green beans, fish oil, sprinkle bone meal Meal 4: whole tilapia, fins and spikes removed. Meal 5: whole cornish game hen These are some of what we do and have had no issues. It also depends on what you can get for meats/organs where you live. The more variety the better. Chicken leg quarters are a very good option and it's a bulk of my dogs diet. It's the perfect ratio of bone to protein and it's big enough to force them to chew. Wings or drums can be problematic since they are too tiny and not enough bone/calcium. Hope this helps.

@@futbol1972 I'm not sure because we dont supplement. That'll also end up costing you a bunch of money for all these supplements. We dont even use a bunch of the bone meal powder unless we know they'll go a few meals without raw bone. Bone meal powder is cooked and shouldn't be used all the time anyway. Also, salmonella is part of a dogs digestive tract. They cant get sick from it, you can if you dont keep clean. Just dont touch your dogs face after they've eaten. If your wife is scared then you guys just need to stick with raw store bought kibble, sorry. Theres no easy way to do this. It does take a bit of work to go this route. It's not necessary, but if it makes you feel better then go ahead! Dogs and cats lick their butt regardless of the food they eat, which has just as much bacteria, yet we don't wash their mouth when we see them do that, do we :p

If you are immunocompromised it absolutely is recommended to avoid allowing them to lick you but you will be okay if you pet them and wash your hands afterwards. @@decodingmysteries9867 she mentioned how high the fat is in pork (he ate ALOT of fatty pork without my knowledge that day) and basically just told me it was the high fat content that overrided or triggered his system and caused the pancreatitis, but another thought we had was a bone shard could have possibly ripped part of his GI tract open because his x rays were so cloudy and his abdomen was filling up with fluid but luckily his body absorbed the fluid back in after the treatment for pancreatitis. She said if he went untreated for any longer the fatality rate for him was through the roof (he has defecating blood and loose stool) so she just said it was the high fat content and some dogs just can’t handle some raw foods but I do plan on keeping him on one brand of kibble for the entirety of his life to play it safe because he can get pancreatitis again if I don’t be careful with what foods are given to him

Help! I want to feed raw so badly but two weeks ago I bought two young chickens that were”free range, natural and not treated with hormones and steroids” at Walmart and out of all of my five dogs my golden retriever got a very rare bacteria called botulism and it almost killed her, she is still in care, she had muscle paralysis, and could not walk or move, difficulty chewing and swallowing, and extreme abdominal pain, I’m scared it might happen again😢

I am so incredibly sorry this happened! Are they 100% sure this came from that chicken? Botulism is often found in containers of food that have been improperly preserved, like jarred or canned foods. Either way, this isn't something that's very common at all in fresh raw meats, but I understand your concern after that event. I hope she recovers soon!

I'm torn....because raw meat from the store made my dogs crazy sick. I fed my 2 huskies and small mutt raw sirloin beef and turkey neck and they ALL 3 had explosive diarrhea and vomiting for a whole week....all over the floors and sofas. They all got salmonella or e.coli bacteria from raw meat. For me, I'm just going to boil any meat to 165F to be safe! I had to force them to drink electrolytes and give them anti-diarhea medicine...I tried giving them beef broth and pumpkin puree mixed with white rice and boiled chicken and they'd barely eat anything for days. I cleaned up messes all day for a week for all 3 dogs, it was completely exhausting. I had given them raw meat plenty times before but this was the first time they got this sick....never want to go through that again. In the past one of them got sick from beef but not this bad....this was on another level. I was forcing them to drink electrolytes bone broth...that's how sick they were that they didn't even want to drink much. The problem with buying from the store is you don't know how clean the store is and if they are keeping their meat cold enough. I know my fridge is 33-34F so it's cold enough, but what happened before I bought it is a mystery.

Nunyabiznass, check out Raw Paws Pet Food online. I have been willing to spend a little more just for the convenience of having raw pet food that's already been prepared without worrying about trying to make sure I have all the right amount of minerals, nutrients, vitamins, etc. The have a huge variety including ones that come in a "roll" form, kind of like a roll of sausage you'd buy for yourself at the grocery store. They have chicken, beef, lamb...some are straight meat and others include veggies. Either way, I'm learning that a raw diet doesn't have to be hard or scary (like some would have us believe). On the contrary, it's probably the healthiest way for most pets to eat!
