Thank you so much for this. After getting bags and bags of vet recommended food for my new puppy, I felt a little overwhelmed. I had intended on trying a more natural diet, but I gave in to the puppy kibble. After taking the time to read all the ingredients (I live in Japan, so it's all in kanji...) I realized I spent $80+ for a month's worth of cornmeal, flour and meat "meal". Your channel gave me the courage to actually try out this plan. Since I live in Japan, it's really easy to access the basic muscle meats and meaty bones for this diet. In fact, shopping and prep time (for about a week's worth of food) only took an hour and about $20. With more practice and figuring out how to order directly from a butcher (Japanese is my second language) I think I'll be able to save more money. I can't believe feeding raw will cost the same, or less than, commercial food. Before, he went crazy for kibble during training sessions, but after a few tastes of real chicken, he's already giving me the cold shoulder when I offer him a piece of dry kibble. 😂

@pepcaladno62513 жыл бұрын
Not only you should write down the weight and age, but I'd also recommend writing down almost every meal including what and how much the puppy ate, you can document what they don't like to eat, what kind of poop they had after the meal. It will be so helpful in case you will need to show your puppy to your vet so the vet could take a look and see if there're any potential deficiencies or if your puppy has an allergy to something. I still do that sometimes when feeding my own dogs just to keep track of what they actually get.

Question.. I’m about to transition my 5 month old black lab puppy to raw food. I bought a raw whole chicken for his first meal & cut it into sections. How do I go about feeding it to him? I have no idea where to start. Do I just give him a few pieces & let him have at it? Or should I cook it a little the first time I give it to him so it’s not completely raw & then gradually decrease the cooking time til it’s completely raw?
@Ascensionshealingtarot3335 ай бұрын
@leakononchuk5540 You can feed him a little piece by piece by hand to start off then put it on a lick mat/bowl. No need to cook, raw is raw

My puppy is only 2 months old and surprisingly she is able to eat each section of chicken wings, and she does really well with it. She somehow understands she is supposed to crunch down the bone really well and I see her crunch down even the largest section of the wing to tiny pieces. I always supervise. She seems to love it. When I got her she had diarrhea from a round of antibiotics due to a littermate getting giardia and the vet being cautious.... within a few days she had solid stool and I really think this had a lot to do with the bone. I felt so relieved to see this work so well for her. It feels less intimidating now that I see she is already thriving on it.

Hello! I'm not sure if anyone will read this question as this video has been out for a year. But I thought I would give it a shot! I'm new to raw feeding and I am researching as much as possible. It seems as though everyone recommends raw bones, but I am concerned about choking! For those of you who raw feed, do you leave your dog with the raw bone and allow them to decide when they are done? Do you remove after they have gotten the majority of the meat off of the bone? What is the best approach? Thank you to any and all replies!!

Your videos are amazing! I'm so happy there are people like you out there helping to educate pet parents on the benefits of feeding a species appropriate diet! Good for you! I'm not sure how to start my 2 in a half month old pomsky puppy on the raw diet
@nubbie94943 жыл бұрын
Great video, love the channel. My only hesitation of feeding raw to my puppy is it has been hard to find information on the correct RMB for large/giant breed dogs. I am getting a corgi soon and the breeder says that I should be feeding a large breed puppy diet because it is lower in calcium/phosphorus and lower in calories. They cited that research is showing that corgi's skeletal structure develops at similar rates to large breeds and that having a diet too high in calcium/phosphorus may become problematic. My concern is on perfectly rawsome as well as your videos, it says that puppies should get 17% RMB with no recommendation of different breed's needs. I'm not sure if this is because raw has different rules or if raw hasn't caught on to the same trend happening with kibble. While my question is specifically in relation to corgis, I'm sure many large/giant breed puppy owners are also asking the same question. Would you be willing to elaborate on the correct RMB ratio for these breeds?
@kaitlynreece91662 жыл бұрын
It's more about the ratio. I also have a large breed. If you order from perfectly rawesome, i would just make a special note that you need the Ca:P balanced at 1:1

I just want to go ahead and comment thank you for this video. I bought a large breed dog (GSD) and she's 4 months old and somehow went from 35lb to 30lb. I figured out what happened. Her dry food is only giving her 795kcals a day and she needs 1288kcals a day. She's only getting 16oz versus the 24.48oz she needs! Thank you so much, I'm doing my research and I'm making a change!!

Your videos have been great! I really find your advice so helpful. Something I just noticed though, I used your puppy cheat sheet that says “meat 41-45%” and “organs 25%” and “liver 2-4%” and second organ “6-8%” Already doing great on the raw food, my 5 month old puppy started having diarrhea, I’m beginning to think it was from too much organ meat. I then saw this video saying “meat 69%, bone 15%, liver 7%, sec organ 7%. That’s a totally different calculation I came up with for the portions of each, saying I need far more meat and far less organs. This video didn’t quite match your cheat sheet…could you please explain if I am misreading something? Thanks for your videos!

Can you do raw and kibble? Or should you feed your dog one thing and one thing only. I figured some raw food is better than none.
@vanessamcgrew44862 жыл бұрын
I’ve asked this question on another channel. What they say is u can give them raw muscle meat, but not the rest because a mainly kibble diet makes them vulnerable to bacteria that is higher likely to be found in organ tissue. Kibble makes those bacteria easier to manifest due to its high carb count, which is why in a completely raw diet, it great to feed organ meet. They also said something about possibly overdoing some of the minerals cuz they would be found in BOTH the kibble and the organ meet.

One thing I used to be guilty of is feeding some of what I call inferior meats like chicken for the sake of variety. I now obsess more about quality. For example, if I can feed more grass finished beef or bison and skip the chicken I do that. To me I would rather feed more nutrient dense meats and less variety. If more red nutrient dense meats are fed, I would think less supplementation is required.
@antonioj1233 жыл бұрын
I just has such bad luck with raw chicken, the campylobacter bacteria I understand is something that doesn't affect most dogs, but the bacteria in the raw chicken left my Lab paralyzed for a couple of months. Australian vets have known about the affect of this bacteria on dogs for a long time now and there is little information in this bacteria in the U.S. so I'm hesitant in giving raw chicken to puppies at this time.

I'm worried about overdoing the iodine or vitamin D, is there a resource that can tell me how much to give my pup? She comes home in two weeks at 9 weeks old and shes a basset hound. ps LOVE your videos!!!!!!!! 10/10

i wish i new about your program when sauin was growing up. i actually stopped feeding her raw when she was a puppy because i was so nervous i wasn't balancing it correctly and she's a large breed. i was so scared i would harm her bones or brain development. the only resource i had was perfectly rawsome. now she is so picky she doesn't eat the majority of her meals. i don't remember her being that way before when i fed her raw. she definatly was like that on kibble as a puppy. i fed her orijen and she hated it! i am going to breed her and keep a puppy so i keep planning how i will feed raw correctly when i do have the new puppy. will you do a video on breeding and lactating females? thank you for offering such great info!
