Easily one of the best episodes Meateater has published because of the quality of this Father/Daughter relationship. It's easy to tell how close they are and how much quality time they've spent together to get to that point. Awesome work on that dad's part. 🙌

Opened the comments to say this exact same thing. MeatEater has put out some incredible videos, but this one is just on another level. The pure emotions and clearly genuine relationship and bond is absolutely beautiful to see between a father and a daughter. Well done.

This video is easily and without any comparison, the best MeatEater/hunting video ever made. So many of the feelings and conversations are a mirror of me with my daughters. I completely agree with and understand the comment about how you don’t wanna hunt for yourself anymore you just wanna hunt with your daughters. I feel the exact same way. Thank you for making this video.

My daughter is 5! Both of us cant wait for her to start hunting. I’ve been taking her with me since she was 2 and she loves it. Especially when we see elk. 3-4 more years and she will probably be doing hunter safety. Already got a custom rifle built with arca rails and everything setup for it to be on a tripod!

I really can't wait to be able to be showing my son the ropes when he's old enough. I think this really resonates with a lot of us parents who were shown by our parents and now have young children of our own. Being able to share something we were taught and learnt that we are now proud and passionate about with the next generation and them hopefully with the generation that follows them. I can't be anymore thankful then that.

21:05 that time comes for every hunter. You still want to go chase game, the hunting season still gets your blood pumping, but you're more exited for the next generation of hunters to have those experiences you had at their age. It's perfect and means you have come full circle as a hunter, father and outdoorsman. Hunting is such a traditional and enjoyable experience the only better thing than goin yourself is to take someone with you. Great video, thanks for the content!

Been trying to have a child going on 4 years now. This entire episode had me on the verge of tears. The happiness of spending time with your kid in your happy place has got to be one of the best feelings in the world. The “thanks for taking me.” Killed me at the end. I can see why everything you do for yourself doesnt matter because her appreciation trumps everything. I hope one day I get to experience that.

More like this please. This is so relatable. I like watching the meateater stuff but I can’t afford to do a nonresident big game western hunt spot and stalk every year. Hunting in a blind with my kid is where I am at in my happy place. Even the part where he breaks down the deer in the back of the pickup. My kids love skinning and grinding deer and makes them appreciate where their food comes from. Good stuff Tony.

It takes 10 years plus to draw a black bear tag for Zone A as a resident, yet one farmer complains about crop damage and the DNR (does nothing right) brings in professional trappers to erraticate any bears coming through the area? Bears can smell for over seven miles, pretty hard to determine which one is a "nuisance bear". It's unreal, I wish the Wisconsin DNR would have an overhaul and actually listen to the people of this state. Good hunt, good on you for getting the kids out hunting and passing on the traditions. Love all the Meateater videos, keep up the great work.
@ExperiencedNovice2024

@lifeblaze I’d like to encourage you to talk with the DNR and get involved in the DNR and Farming regulation process. DNRs across the country are often forced to do things because of other, more politically powerful, groups. Rather than berating the DNRs and reducing their ability to champion better ideas, help them get political support for the ideas.

Keep up the good work. You are definitely on the right track with your daughters. Although my daughter turned 36 this month, and lives half way across the country, we always try to schedule at least one hunt together each year. My first hunt with her was with a subsonic 22 rabbit hunt with her in a snugly. At 12 she got her first 3 big game animals, one with a bow. In the years since we’ve gone on many dozens of hunts, 90% self guided on public land. This year she burned 20 points on a bull elk tag in Colorado and we got to spend another week together hunting. Although she was successful, the most important part was the hours of reminiscing about the good times, hard times, and boondoggles over decades of hunting together. You will not regret the time you are putting in to make the hunts fun and successful.

I guess I’ll be the guy to point out that neighbor that complained about crop damage. I know hogs are terrible on crops but I don’t know how much damage black bears do. Maybe they just didn’t want people hunting bears. Anyway it’s amazing that you guys got to have this experience together. My son and I went on our first bear hunt this spring and it was one of my best experiences ever. Mostly because of the great bonding time.
