I’ve got the MEATER Block and I love it. The app does a fantastic job, it’s user friendly, and gives a lot of info for your cooks. 4 probes is the way to go! With brisket I put a probe in the money muscle, then another one in the flat to monitor both sides of the meat.

Yesterday I was smoking a chicken in cookshack smoker using the cookshack integrated ambient probe at 200° and the meater probe was spot on with the cookshack integraded probe until at the 2 hour and 10 minute mark, the meater probes ambient temperature for some reason dropped down to 175° there was no change or difference in the internal meat temp between the two probes,just the ambient temp. Any suggestions?

My Meater+ was defective. It ate batteries like there is no tomorrow - I couldn't even get it to pair with my phone. I contacted Meater support and got no answer. I returned it and bought an Inkbird Bluetooth and WiFi Meat Thermometer IBBQ-4BW. That has been great and the batteries are rechargeable. The app for it is wonderful as well.

Battery powered, with non-replaceable batteries. When a friend bought one quite a while back he commented on a relatively short battery life where longer cooks (brisket, slow pulled pork) would outlast the battery power. This happened after he had the set for over a year however and he smoked year round.

@tvideo1189
@tvideo1189 Жыл бұрын
@@fallios Not all these Meater sets come with 4 probes "bro". And paying that much for a set of what has essentially a useable life limiting rechargeable battery is tossing money out the window. Unless you really need a probe for a rotisserie these things are just not worth the money IMHO. Wired probes work fine and are inexpensive to replace when or if they go bad. If these had a user-replaceable battery and you had money to spend on an overpriced solution, then go for it.

You guys can't honestly think anyone would use this at a competition, would you? You didn't have any issues with the app telling you that your longer cooks were burnt? My experience with this unit is 180 degrees the other way. In my Yoder YS640 it was constantly losing connection, the temps were 10 degrees off (verified with Thermapen), kept throwing warnings that my meat was burnt when I was cooking brisket, and the worst was the customer service - Bringing this stuff up to them was futile, more roadblocks than help. That'd be cool, that way you could run errands and still see temps out on the road but you might be waiting for that technology for quite some time. I can see the use of satellites to accomplish this task but readings wouldn't be quite as accurate due to the time it would take to bounce off a satellite and back imo. I had a buddy that lived in the country that had satellite internet and said it was super slow. Weather is another factor for stability use cases as well but I see your point.

@@redbirdsjunkie I'm confused, the Block connects to Wifi and allows monitoring from anywhere in the world where you have internet access. Both of my pellet grills allow for the same thing. I can turn them on/off or monitor temps from anywhere. I believe the Block allows for the same thing.

@@mikeg6069 Hmm interesting, what pellet grills do you own that allows you to do this? So what I'm hearing is you don't need to be within range (i.e. wifi or bluetooth) to control your temps/grill controls? You're saying that in theory you can be in another state and still be able to monitor your pit as long as you have internet access??
@mikeg6069
@mikeg6069 2 жыл бұрын
@@redbirdsjunkie this is now common amongst pellet grills. I have a Recteq RT-700 and a Grilla Grills Chimp. But the same Wi-Fi connectivity is available from Pit Boss. Louisiana Grills, Green Mountain Grills, Traeger, Yoder, etc. Just about all pellet grill manufacturers have this. And there's nothing theoretical about it. You can also do more than just monitor. I've been out running errands and wanted my grill hot before I got home so I've turned it on while driving back home. I've been in church checking the meat temp on a long 12 hour cook and adjusted the temp higher or lower if I wanted to speed things up or slow things down. I use the phone apps so much that I know how to control my grills better from my phone than I do on the grills' control panels.

Do not trust this product. It’s over cooks 100% of the time by a significant amount. The customer service is terrible these are their actual words; “With regards to the rest period, it is actually quite normal for the internal temperature to exceed the target. “ “Although the temperature may exceed, we do see the temperatures drop back down and the results are typically what we are looking for!” So by their own words the cook doesn’t match the target temp. It over cooks then you let it get cold so it matches. To give you an idea of how out. On a target temp of 63c / 145f for a pork loin. The meater will over cook it to 70c/158f

My Meater + keeps disconnecting. "Move the Meater Plus charger closer to the probe" I have the charger 6' away from the probe. In addition, it should have a flip timer in the software. I flip steaks, on the grill, every 2 minutes. This means I have to run Meater software AND my timer simultaneously. So, Meater keeps disconnecting, alarms keep going off for flipping, I'm flipping the steak, switching softwares, waiting for reconnection etc etc It's a complete pain in the a** adding this expensive device to what was an otherwise pleasurable experience. My Thermapen is just fine, thank you very much. Now, on longer cooks I can see the benefit. The Meater software does eventually reconnect. Then my only issue is hearing it disconnect every couple of minutes. It's annoying, but it works.
