it was Japans economic Bubble time, so sponsors were just throwing money at studios to do whatever they wanted, it was nuts.. luckily they used it wisely and gave us great timeless Animation... ( Unlike Hollywood, when a 200 million movie becomes a forgettable Flop, swimming in failure )

I feel that a lot of the anime in the 80s and 90s was highly stylized because of market competition. Animation took a long time and each was trying to stand out and be unique. And it worked. There's a lot of great pieces that nobody has yet to recapture what they had.

The two cops in megazone part 23 have a passing resemblance to Lupin and Jigen. Seeing that armor in bubblegum crisis makes me think that must be where the design for TFP Arcee came from.

As a "young" newbie anime fan growing up in the 80's, I recognized most of those. Did not see Madox but recognized all the others. What a lot of fans don't know about these shows were the KICK-BUTT soundtracks they had! Megazone 23, Project A-Ko, and Bubblegum Crises are still on my list of Top 5 favorite soundtracks, 40 years later. Also, do not forget that Megazone 23 was one of the inspirations for The Matrix movies. Don't forget 40 years of Gundam! James Staley Jones, Oklahoma Animefan 4 life (and i'm now 60 years old!)
