No, not really. I mean, there was a bit more static detail here and there (on occasion), but the action scenes were boring and drab compared to stuff that came out later. It was the mid-late 90s when things got really good.. ie GitS, Bubblegum Crisis 2040, Appleseed, etc.
@phillipmartinez24364 жыл бұрын
it was better funded. Japan's real estate market was massive so the Japanese had tons of money to spend on whatever they wanted. Millions of dollars for an obscure OVA. Once their market crashed in the early 90s, amazing stories would be lucky to get 60k per 20 to 30 minutes. The 80s and early 90s ultra violent and some awsome stuff was really niche. It never made money but at the time they did not care because the real estate bubble. Once the buble burst well you can tell how drastically things changed. If you get 150k you can make about 30 minutes of anime, anyone can do it but obviously companies want to profit off it. 150k is a lot of money for a cartoon episode that can take decades to make a profit.

Maddox-01 was a very unusually styled anime for it's day. For some reason I keep thinking there was an older version of Silent Mobius in this style, or maybe that was never the case. However BGC was a favorite of mine. BGC was one of many anime OVA that came out of AIC's studios during that era. The 80's and 90's where a great year for so many experimental works. Good or bad, seeing them now...is a piece of anime history you'll want relive or experience.

I'm going to dig around in my childhood artwork, to find the character, rework, and use him as my created character in Cyberpunk 2077. 80's/90's were truly the absolute best.. There was so much magic, and inspiration in it, that I just don't get from MOST of the anime today.. BGC is still my fav. I think BGC was among the first Anime LDs that I bought in the US...just after AnimEigo had released them here. Before that it was either importing or nothing.

BGC 2040 was way better. The action scenes in the original BGC were clunky and had no weight in them.

Iria was definitely my favorite from back then. Now I have to re-watch it.

One of the great things about 80s and 90s anime is that the storylines did not have to make sense for it to be considered good. 2020 anime is almost all formulaic by comparison.

Iria and Zeiram is one of my all time favorite obscure anime. That soundtrack is fuckin fire.

8:34 _iria: zeiram_ is classic cyberpunk with weird costume and strange story, not equal with _Ghost in the Shell_ (1995) which still the best cyberpunk anime.
