the thing that intro is missing is why gundam is such a genius series. the reason they used mechas in that first war instead of guided rockets and nukes is very simple... they cant. because the fusion reactors they developed has a massive emp effect that demands a massive and expensive anti emp protection, so it was mostly things like fighters and ships would get that. its also why in the original they went into dog-fighting distance even though they are in space. because the radiation mess with cameras and other sensitive equipment, making aiming borderline impossible outside of line of sight. finally, and probably one of my favorite details of the original series is the reason they developed the mobile suits in the first place. which was the ambac movement system. using the limbs as pivot to swing around on multiple axis while maintaining direction, something that is borderline impossible with a traditional ship. specially at the speeds they fly at and how fast they can to those movements. so contrary to the obvious line of thinking, the human body model of the mobile suits was developed for space first, under gravity combat second.

Zeta's 2nd opening is still one of my favorites in really anything. Zeta in general is a very special series to me, being the first TV Gundam I watched, and the second TV anime I watched (first was Evangelion lol). Looking forward to your thoughts on 90s Gundam, probably the most experimental era. After War Gundam X is still the greatest of the franchise imo.

Zeta'a 2nd opening had both amazing visuals and an amazing song, truly a perfect pair, that's why I came away from this video saying it was my favourite opening I checked out from these 7 (though I have been listening to Beyond The Time by TM NETWORK, the Ending from Char's Counterattack quite a but recently) 😅 Man I would have loved to be watching Evangelion weekly on TV, I'm sure that was a crazy experience!! 👀 I'm hoping to have the 90's video out sometime this week, thanks for the support!! 🥹💚

But yeah, Beyond the Time and From the Aqueous Star with Love are always the top beloved songs by Gundam fans. I'd say those and Invoke by TM Revolution from Gundam SEED are THE Gundam songs.

lets go, any uc gundam content is much appreciated. pinecino, so goat man for giving small tidbits about the series (and also the edited mv there), it definitely adds something to the discussion part. not to say a pure reaction content is bad or anything, it just that i more preferred something like this. giving your insight as newbie with abit of context is definitely the way to go, i know this make little sense, but it just give me the impression that you atleast care with what you are talking about lol. i dont get why people rarely doing it this way, and yeah the whole spoiler argument is such bs to me.

Not gonna lie, the UC content for Gundam is what really hooked me, I love long-term storytelling with interconnected elements, and it sounds like the UC timeline for Gundam has plenty of it 👀 Thanks for acknowledging the hard work Pinecino put into everything by the way!! He went above and beyond here and I'm so grateful to have him helping me with the content on the channel, he's a huge Gundam fan, so he's been looking forward to this one for a long time 😅 I agree though!! the reason why anime fandom exists as it is today is because of gundam I sadly forget the name of the event, but the first big anime fan gathering happened because of gundam, with cosplay and such; The event was so massive it took tomino himself stepping up with a megaphone to calm the crowd and make some damn anime (no other way to put it) declarations. The event even got a full ass anime name, new century... something, I sadly forget. Also, Tomino full on credits female fans and specially fujoshi as having helped gundam survive and trive. Its weird how much of a massive impact gundam had on culture, that seemingly goes unspoken or forgotten.

17:50 on the topic of real robots, you should look up Fang of the sun dougram I often see it being called an even more real robot show than gundam; Focusing a lot on guerilla tactics and politics to the point where its own compilation movie release was formatted as a documentary about the conflict of the show, with the protags getting basically no focus. Also its mech designs went on to be used (and I believe might still be in use) by battletech/mechwarrior.

You got me with Gundam and your love for cats seemingly haha, I'm a recent cat lover so it has become a weakness. As people have mentioned I also enjoy seeing others react to Gundam content, I've always loved mechs but it wasn't until 2020 that I finally bought myself a Gundam model kit to build and it's been now something really therapeutic and fun to do though if I'm honest I've been on a long break since last year after building a model kit called The Judge (not a Gundam but a mech from a Chinese company called Moshow that a lot will know in the comments) and going through a terrible and frustrating experience. ANYWAY, cheers from the Caribbean to you, love your comments too and analysis! Oh I forgot to mention that I haven't seen all the Gundam shows, almost there. I stopped a few years ago at after finishing Zeta so have a couple after that one. My favorite is SEED, War in the Pocket (masterpiece) and MS 08 team another blast from the past to the 90's, as someone who easily gets emotional watching nostalgic stuff even if I haven't watched them myself at the time those hit harder!

The lyrics of Anime Ja Nai talks about a child having his views and ideas disparaged by adults, telling him that the world around him “isn’t an anime” and thus can’t be compared to his limited real life experiences or messages he drew from fiction/anime. It’s actually a very strong message since a lot of times Gundam is about the young protagonist being forced to fight a war the adults started, and then having their opinions being pushed aside as not worthy since they are just kids. It tells the hypocrisy of the adult world a child faces. So while the name of the song gets memed a lot, it’s very fitting to the franchise which nearly always contains very strong coming of age messages, and in many ways is way more mature than many mainstream entertainment.

Just want to add a bit more context/correction - in the lyrics the singer talks about how he saw/experience something which he shares with adults, then the adults proceeds to making fun of him saying he "watched too much TV/read too much manga", and that's why he replies /yells back in the chorus "anime janai! honto no koto sa!" (it wasn't anime! it's real!). The sort of child-like argumentative tone is also very clever since the protagonist of ZZ Gundam Judau was a 14 years old boy without parents trying to make a living as a scavenger to send his sister to a good private school in the colony they live in, so he's got both a childish mentality as well as a maturity beyond his age duality to him, as well as a strong distrust of adults which is then reflected in the lyrics.

ZZs second opening is a reward for putting up with the slapstick/slice of life/humor from the series first half and focusing on one of if not the strongest Gundam women in Haman Karn. There is a hilarious edit of Char yelling in one of the ZZ openings for something the protagonist did

Zeta and ZZ once it hits its its stride is PEAK Gundam it just does everything right. Silent Voice is such a good opening. "Beyond the Time" has become the theme song to all over UC Timeline Gundam. and yes its an amazing song. and yeah 0080 is the Die Hard of anime its THE anime Christmas show/movie now.

On a meta level, the series began in 1979, with the story taking place in Universal Century 0079. It's not really 100 years later, but the implication is there. In a little over 50 years, we went from the Wright Flier to landing a man on the moon. With Japan's rapid recovery after the war, having space colonies & mecha doesn't sound too impossible in a hundred years time. That's the kind of optimism they had before the economic bubble burst.

Gundam's golden age was '79 until roughly '94. There were lots of bangers since, but there was something special about those first fifteen years.

sorry but i have to disagree. 79 was NOT the year of gundam, on the contrary it was actually a massive failure. it was only later in, i81 with the movie compilation that it really hit its stride. and it was zeta which really blew it up. ZZ was successfull, but was also seen as a very divisive show. and the movie that ended the "main trilogy" cemented it. there was even a time ZZ was seen as not canon due to some deaths that happen in it. afterwards, they did some amazing ova series, with war in the pocket, 08th ms team and stardust memory, but when it came with main series, both G and victory were, again, divisive at best, at the time. with G only later gaining some love. hell, it took all they way up to SEED for the franchise to REALLY blow up world wide. so technically speaking, it was from 2002 onwards that we can trully count as gundam's golden age, both in recognition and success.

Hell, if you find yourself wondering about the deeper meaning of anything in evangelion the answer usually is "Its ultraman"

Also, if you want some absolutely silly fun look for Ultraman out of context videos There are a few for the early shows, and they are just distilled early toku silliness with no context.

1/100 MG Zeta Gundam Ver Ka. If you liked Zeta Gundam you have to build this gunpla model. Yeah the 6500 yen is kinda pricey for beginner but It's a fully posable 20cm model. It even transforms to Waverider Mode perfectly. It's a snap fit build like lego, but you just need to cut out the parts with nippers yourself instead. You can build it on stream. There's also a way cheaper (and smaller) alternative 1/144 HGUC Zeta Gundam for 2000 yen. But it's not as impressive as the MG one.

1:13:45 there's absolutely no reason to start the series with the first series. now dont get me wrong, even though im not a fan of the first series i will say it has, hands down, the best story in the franchise. BUT, like i said, its absurdly dated. i would actually advise on starting with either one of the more successfull AU series like SEED, Iron Blooded Orphans or 00, or, if you want to start with a UC story instead, go with either war in the pocket or thunderbolt. the first series is actually much better enjoyed when you already have some prior experience with the franchise. since the dated animation will not detract as much, and you can see the parallels in other series and where they came from. i know alot of people will respond to me saying things like "i started with the original and had no problem" but i really mean it when i say the animation is BAD in the original series. and i dont just say that because it was old. there's a reason why it got cut in half and cancelled. it was bad animation for 1979/80's expectations, so let that sink in. take your time, the franchise is not going anywhere. you could even start with zetainstead, since, belive it or not, that's how most people started with the UC and it was designed to be kind of a soft reboot.
