3800 V6 main ground is located between the AC and starter motor, on the bottom, surrounded by a frame lip. Grease/corrosion. Can't get to it unless stabilizer dropped or engine removed. Hooked up a second ground to the block, intemittent no start now solid,, caused by ignition key resistor out of spec - 4.9K instead of 4.7K. All these years.....

Had a CRAZY intermittent voltage issue for two years. Thought I had a parasitic draw or a gremlin, killed my batteries and could never put much electrical load on the truck without it trying to shut off. I replaced thousands of dollars in parts, starting with alternator all the way up to various wires. That's when I ran into a single, dirty ground on the engine block. Took it off, cleaned it, moved it to the chassis and boom. Fixed. I cried that night 😂

That's incredible. I bet it's still fixed to this day! I've never had one that bad. I will tell you bad grounds have caused me a lot of electrical problems in the past.

my AC started blowing warm air. long story short I removed the batt ground bolt and bracket, wire brushed them clean including the frame and yahoo AC blowing cool again. whod of thunk.

Power flows neg to positive, in reality. Thats why hold a + and not get shocked. The floppy negative wires brings the shock. 🤷. First day at ITT tech, "forget all you know, power flows neg to pos. And best way to get good bass out of subs is to run 3 same ohm speakers to get zero resistance. " I wanted to walk out the 10 mins class first day .

As a shadetree mechanic in the rust belt. Grounds are always the first thing I check any time there's an electrical issue. Especially truck tail lights. There's always a bad chassis ground I the rear

The grounding strap from the back of head to firewall on mine is completely torn in two. Every now and then I have starting issues where it will crank and start for a split second and then die. Had to walk to school this morning cause of it and then ended up finding it later today. Thankfully wasn’t too far. I’m surprised I don’t have more problems from it honestly

As many electrical issues I've tracked down, I've almost never had a ground be the issue. It's got to be mostly a northern thing. Every time it's been a ground it's been rust related.

Not the same vehicle but I had a Chevy s10 that when you press the brake the turn signal light in the cluster would turn on, turned out to be a ground that wasn't connected. So yea grounds matter.

Wow, awesome! I redid my harness, to hide it and run it along the firewall, alot of custom mods basically. And my old phone died where I had all the pictures I had taken of where the grounds were all at. This helped me out big time, thanks!

Man i just picked up a sierra 1500 with the 4.8 vortec, and ill be checking all these out in conjunction with the notorious oil pressure gauge. Really need to get a manual for this new to me 2005 however. Last owner had fat hands and couldnt get the oil pressure sensor connector back on apparently.

#1 breakdown, or center delay( package shipping/loading center), throughout the history of UPS Shipping "BAD ELECTRICAL GROUND CONNECTION"🎯 They wanted every ground connection checked, secured and coated with dielectric grease.

You really want to test them first and not disturb them if not necessary. If you take them off and sand the contacts surfaces, now both the connectors and parts are BARE METAL and will now corrode 1000 times faster now and will almost certainly cause more ground issues in the future, i highly suggest if you have to remove a ground and have to sand it, to clean it, put it together and then either paint over it to seal it or cover it in a thin oil/grease or something like fluid film to stop corrosion.

What? lol if it wasn't bare metal in the first place, there's no conductivity, so that was a problem from the start. Rust is just part of the game. Now painting over it after the bolt is seated might not be a bad idea, but it really depends on the climate. Here in Texas, for example, rust isn't really an issue. But I'm sure up north or near the ocean, it's far more problematic.

@@jw11432 the contacts aren't bare from the factory, the wire end(hoop connectors) is always coated with something (usually a zinc coating) and usually the frames will still be painted/coated underneath and usually the factory uses a special "sharp/cutting"(not the correct technical term) washer (which is also usually zinc coated) under the connector that pierces through the undercoat/paint on the frame and slightly pierces into the wire connector to bond the 2 surfaces, but in theory where it pierces through should be sealed from the outside air. How I wrote that makes it sound confusing but in short, you don't want to just sand off all the surrounding coating on the connectors or the frame because the corrosion will have an easier path to get to the contact points causing connection problems.

My brother had me put a ground on his starter bolt and to the frame, it helped inprove his cranking speed. He told me someone who has been a mechanic for 15 years told him to try it. I didnt ask any questions and he offered to pay me a few bucks and a pizza 😂. I never argue with adding redundant grounds.

@@NeuronioJrnah that’s perfectly safe, you could have 20 and it’d be fine all it’s doing is grounding the vehicle the proud doesn’t draw power it just keeps it from frying anything and it connects all the electrical components in your vehicle to be sent back to the battery, I’m running 4 in my truck from previous owners and just decided to keep em there and clean them up

2001with 225k... I had to replace them all and the fusible links, and the wheel speed sensors because the guy who replaced the cross member over the fuel tank got a little to zealous with the welder...😢 What a mess. But all is well now.

Sensor grounds are not fed thru the block. This would create too much electrical noise for the electronic circuits in the PCM to filter out. All sensor grounds are fed directly from the PCM

Yeah, I have a ground strap on my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 in the back of the block to the body that was broken and was a bear to get to, and on top of that, the bolt was frozen.

I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 Z71. When I go 30mph light comes on saying battery is not charging but I have new alternator, new battery, new cable, checked and cleaned all grounds. What else could it be? No other shop around me can figure it out

“New” alternator means rebuilt, the voltage regulator in the alternator was probably made in Mexico. Put another alternator in from a different place. 👍😁

​@@NeuronioJryou can add as many grounds to any vehicle as you want. I've always a had positive outcome everytime. Only i would not suggest this for new, electric cars. I've never looked at a wiring diagram for one of those vehicles, so I cannot suggest anything for them.

Yes. The dinger dings with the door open and key in the ignition. Also flashes security when the door is open and key is out.

It's mainly used for the radio, believe it or not. It uses it as part of the antenna. They say it helps ground out the other sensors too. Doesn't really cause running problems though.

I once had an intermittent issue where sometimes when I would drink to much koolaid I wouldn’t poop for a couple days. Traced the ground wire back to where my cup meets my lips, took it off, cleaned… now I poop on the reg. True story.

Suburban is literally a Silverado with an extra row of seats instead of a truck bed haha they will be in the same spot or in the same general area (for the most part)

You should do water leaks into the cab on these GMs I tried all the other YT vid suggestions- Bluetooth fin, rear cab brake light, weather strip on rear driver side quad/ext cab door, but still getting water in the drivers side floor board

Yes! I am trying to fix a leak right now on a clients truck. I replaced the front door seals because it appeared to be coming from the top of the driver's door and dripping off the A pillar. Didn't fix it. Resealed the. Third brake light but it looks like it might still be leaking under the dash onto the passenger floorboard. Or maybe that's just leftover water coming down from the roof. Pretty frustrating.

@@kimokahikolekalihi I pulled the carpet and padding out, been out for a month 😂 even drilled some 1/8 inch drain holes in the driver side rear where it was pooling. I even parked on a hill 3 different ways to see if that effected where it’s coming in a pooling up. I’m afraid I’m gona have to open up the dash and or headliner

My 2011 Chevy Silverado 4x4 5.3 6 speed Transmission has 235 thousand miles and just over 9 thousand engine our . Besides maintenance which I admittedly neglect, changing regular regular wear items , front end suspension components and a hub bearing / CV Axle. Everything is original, works and still runs great

I have a 2003 avalanche 4x4. The 4x4 HI engages while key is on the ON position while in park. It doesn't engage while truck is actually turned on. 4LO doesn't engage at all. I already replaced the transfer case actuator and the transfer case control module (tccm), and it is still having issues. Does anyone know if the tccm has to be program? Or any idea what it might be?
