he used one. look at 3:20, you will see the color of the cuts is brown, that will only happen with the laser cutter. The manual sawing was just for show

4:01 The metal one has an X^2 at the end of the row. You would put the second button on that then the other on 1-12 to get the square for that number.

there’s something called a slide rule. it can multiply, do squares, cubes and even trigonometry. you can actually have one by printing it online. harder to use, but it may come in handy when your scientific calculator’s out of battery. I love how unbulky it is unlike this mechanical calculator

You can use this formula: x^2-1 = (x-1)(x+1). So, 6*6=5*7+1.

Yeah, cool mechanism, but this is a lot of effort for what is essentially an inferior multiplication table. You can't even do squares or multiply small numbers. This might be a cool template for, say, an encoder, or whatever would require two inputs to produce a unique output.

When we went to school in the 1940s we learned the multiplication tables up to 12 x 12 and can still tell you what 7 x 9 is without a moment's thought.

Leider kann ich nicht so Englisch, um den Erklärungen zu folgen. Ich versuche es halt aus dem Kontext, aber Untertitel währen wahrscheinlich zu viel verlangt.
