This, donks in the south, slabs in Texas
@lancefletcher2963Ай бұрын
@@tysony8785 Oh boy, I get to go full Angie on this one. So in Texas, they're SLABs - depending on who you ask, this is either a backronym for "slow, loud, and bangin" or it means "hitting the slab" as in driving on concrete. Considering that it mostly originated in Houston car culture here - either one is possible (Houston is Texas' own concrete jungle. Some places have scenery. Houston has concrete). Slabs are somewhat more similar to classic lowriders - lots of colorful paint and metallics, wild architectural shit on wheels and bumpers, borrows heavily from pimpmobile and blaxploitation car culture, and aren't usually high-risers or have extreme spacing on wheels like donks tend to. Donks tend to be high and fast. Slabs are low and slow - and here, designed to be concrete cruisers. Donks tend to be build with adjustable air rides or coilovers (at least around where I live), and slabs with traditional lowrider hydros, or bagged for really low, soft rides. Slabs are really just the Texas take on SoCal lowriders. Where the Cali lowriders tend to be glossy and smooth - ours are big, brash, and loud. Our custom culture is also kinda regional. North and NE TX tends to favor donks, SE likes slabs, central and south central is big into classic lowriders and kustom kulture, etc. And unlike most other places - we tend to all get along pretty well, outside the hardcore traditionalists/collectors and truck/coal roller people.

The reverse hopping clip is from a Peugeot 306. All versions of the 306 have a torsion bar suspension in the back. Same with the Citroens from that Era. Cheap french rear axle design that works. Its most commonly used nowadays on trailers. And best part, with a few tools you could easily set the ride height at the back by unscrewing a bolt, compressing the suspension and then tighten the bolt again.
@jessevanmierle57527 ай бұрын
I have a 306 phase 2 from 1999 myself and that torsion bar is pretty awesome, not only does it give a comfy ride it's also very serviceable, replacing shocks just requires a jack plus an axle stand and a 18mm and 22mm socket. and if you need to remove the entire rear wheel suspension you just need to remove 6 bolts, loosen brake lines and abs sensor lines and you got the entire bar out, which in my case has to be done because one of the trailing arms is stuck
@4nz-nl3 ай бұрын
Set the ride height easy? If you have something to heat the fucker up, yes. Otherwise, they're usually completely stuck :)
@sw963 ай бұрын
@@4nz-nl Depends on if you're in a rust prone area I reckon. I pulled the torsion bars from a '95 306 to try and adjust the ride height and sag and honestly wasn't too hard to do with penetrating oil and a hammer and punch, but I'm in Aus and we don't have to deal with the level of rust other places are stuck with. Ended up being a wasted effort too, the real fix would've been stiffer bars but that wasn't in budget.

We still say Donk in the Bay, among other things, I can attest! 😂 Usually 30" to 36" forged wheels with a proper lift to accommodate

Oh how much I love you guys :) Those reverse bumpy Peugeots are famous for having the rear suspension gone but that bumping was fun.

The DeLorean was a deathbox because of the stainless steel body panels. They added so much weight it made a 35mph crash feel like a 60mph crash. And the frame could not hold down all that kinetic energy. The weight was distributed away from the frame so it had a lot more kinetic energy stored "higher" on the car and that's why you see so much movement in the body/engine mounts. Rear mounted engines also carry more momentum through the entire episode of the crash rather than it dissipating on initial impact. Stainless is not strong, it's corrosion resistant, but it's soft and heavy compared to other steel.

Rear mounted engine and the steering-rod got you. The frame was a good concept but it had a view lessons to learn.

oh yeah, the magic duo Angelina and Sandro. Both really knowledgeable and great chemistry. That DeLorean.. Crumple zones are there for a reason. Safety. It looks bad it get so crumpled at that speed, but if it didn't you wouldn't walk unharmed out the wreck.

Crumple zone should be in front of the door. Passenger safety cell was toast

I had a hood on a geo pop up on the freeway and shatter the windshield. Turns out I was replacing a heater core and bent the latch while leaning over it, always check to see if the latch fully engaged!

The DeLorean took the crash test better than a Cybertruck.

Not even close. No modern car is as bad as that DeLorean

Yeah no, the front is supposed to be the only crumpled part. When you see the roof fold you know it’s unsafe.

@@gabetessin5837 The cybertruck had no crumple zones, that shit was solid. Letting the driver become the crumple zone

8:30 idr the exact time they started talkinf about hoods, but it reminds me of this time my dad was taling a car for a test drive after working on it and the hood popped open, luckily he was only doing 20-30 tops

I would love to see them react to some of the crazy things that a guy over here in the UK called Colin Furze has done on his channel - he's made the fastest mobility scooter, a 100 MPH dodgem car, various pulse-jet driven things, mini drift trikes...!!
