A bolt that undoes itself is every engineers _nightmare_ - and they exist, they just go a lot slower, which is what makes them so treacherous...

Nightmare is a subset of a dream... :) But yeah, there are those mllliards of forces in nature that cause bolts to unscrew themselves... Sometimes on very important probjects... And that's truly scaring

Some channel went to his house and did a interview and he's got tons of suitcases labeled with different types of toys, and different years the toys are from. That guy could play with a new toy every minute for the next month without any repeats easy.

Small motor like the one in a smartphone that makes the vibration. Also a tiny battery and a mercury switch that turns on when a magnet comes close. The magnet is under the band-aid.

christopher wilson On an aircraft always put the nut down, to the back or to the inside. That way if the nut falls off the plane might stay together. This works on cars also.

at work I work with hollow cylinders near vibration plates and i've noticed when they have very little contact with another object, like a narrow rod through them, they rotate. it always amuses me and i'm glad other people can enjoy this through Tims demonstrations.

Imagine applications that required rapid release fastenings but for environmental reasons couldn't use explosive bolts (for example mine shafts that may have flammable gas pockets). Tim you might have a genuinely important invention on your hands.

As far as the powering of the mechanism goes, there's a watch battery and magnetic switch (notice that the bolt isn't made of a iron or steel) inside the head of the bolt (which can be removed with a tool) that powers the motor. Tim likely hid a small neodymium magnet underneath that bandage on his finger to activate the switch.

That must be one of the greatest uninventions of all times. I am so glad I have a welding machine ready if one of them should turn up in my barn. Once I had a grass mover that dropped bolts and nuts all over the farm - and now I know the reason. From now all bolts will be welded!!!

At first i though that bandage on Tims finger had a charge that made the bolts produce either a negative or positive charge, which made the nut un-thread or re-thread.

The power source for this trick bolt is cunningly hid under the band aid on his finger. Any bolt that vibrates will loosen the nut on its thread, that's why Loctite was invented.

There is a magnet under the plaster and it activates a reed switch sitting just below the head of the bolt. The head of the bolt is false and inside a small watch battery sits to power the motor

There's something in the bandage on his finger that activates the inner motor - and I suspect it is a current that powered by a power source not seen. The wire to the bandage is also cleverly disguised.

years ago we had a rock band in the basement and had small parties on the weekends. the light switch was up stairs ,so we would unscrew the light bulbs that were on the ceiling and put the band lights on. about half way through the night those lights would start to flicker and come back on. the vibrations were making them screw back "up" into the sockets.

Did simply trimming the length reverse the direction? If so, with this knowledge, we could ensure that (if there are vibrations) they tighten down rather than loosen!
