christopher wilson On an aircraft always put the nut down, to the back or to the inside. That way if the nut falls off the plane might stay together. This works on cars also.

at work I work with hollow cylinders near vibration plates and i've noticed when they have very little contact with another object, like a narrow rod through them, they rotate. it always amuses me and i'm glad other people can enjoy this through Tims demonstrations.

As far as the powering of the mechanism goes, there's a watch battery and magnetic switch (notice that the bolt isn't made of a iron or steel) inside the head of the bolt (which can be removed with a tool) that powers the motor. Tim likely hid a small neodymium magnet underneath that bandage on his finger to activate the switch.

The power source for this trick bolt is cunningly hid under the band aid on his finger. Any bolt that vibrates will loosen the nut on its thread, that's why Loctite was invented.

There is a magnet under the plaster and it activates a reed switch sitting just below the head of the bolt. The head of the bolt is false and inside a small watch battery sits to power the motor

years ago we had a rock band in the basement and had small parties on the weekends. the light switch was up stairs ,so we would unscrew the light bulbs that were on the ceiling and put the band lights on. about half way through the night those lights would start to flicker and come back on. the vibrations were making them screw back "up" into the sockets.
