For those who don't know, sarna.net is the BattleTech wiki. This franchise is a space opera set in a semi-dystopian 31st century, where the interstellar governments have reverted back to feudalism and hereditary nobility. There are no sentient aliens, because the theme is that mankind is its own worst enemy. "Machines have evolved. Man hasn't."

The Clans started the invasion in 3049 though, because by 3051 the second wave was starting and the four Crusader clans had already made massive gains in Inner Sphere space and wouldn't be stopped until 3052.

Actually the clans didn't officially invade until 3050 according to Sarna. though you are right that it lasted until 3052 and its possible the invasion actually started in december of 3049. hense why its referred to 3050

Be careful how you phrase that, good sir. Battletech may not be as broad or grimdark as Warhammer 40K, but the sheer depth of its world, characters, and inner-workings makes makes "Game of Thrones" look small in comparison. It also helps that its owners aren't actively trying to kill off the fan community that has supported it through the decades. The Great Exodus of W40K players to Battletech has been a fascinating development to watch and a boon for this franchise's recent revival.

Warning noted. My intention was not to minimize the depth of the universe. I am not yet very far into the lore, but for now, it is definitely looking like the less-grimdark cousin of 40k. Definitely worth looking further into.
