I think you have to determine which stressor holds more weight: the stress of working more/burn out/missing family time for a few years or the constant financial stress of loans for ~10 years. Long term financial stress is tough on your relationship with your spouse but also as your kids get older they’ll be able to pick up on it. My parents both worked a lot and I hold zero resentment towards them because I know they did what needed to be done for their financial future.
@drjennale3 жыл бұрын
That is very true. I have many people tell me that they had both physician parents and they always felt loved and supported. For me, I think the reasons for not working more is more for me. I don’t want to miss my kids growing up. They probably won’t even notice I’m gone more 😅

Interesting Fact I learned in the milltary holiday season same time every year. No need to stress we know it's coming. I make a list with everyone name 4 gifts each with certain amount of money allowed to spend for each person. I usually get everything on sale through out the year and am done by September. It's much easier to spend 20 here and there vs 100s around the holidays.

I'm not sure how your financial situation can be improved if you don't want to work more. Have you considered tele medicine full time? Does London go to a daycare? You can probably work during the time your kids go to school/day care. At the end of the day, it all comes down to what your priorities are. I would personally prioritize paying off debts. That would just make me very uncomfortable to owe that much money. Even if it means a little less time with my family. I can only enjoy my time with my family if I'm financially comfortable.

I’m going to make Stan work more 🤣 I personally just felt so burnt out after residency in the mist of a pandemic. Thanks for sharing. I have the same amount of school debt as a recent medical grad. My grace period also ends at the end of January. I’ve been overwhelmed with finding work positions to do while building my CV for residency. Are there any good positions as an MD without a residency as a way to pay back the debt?
@drjennale3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, you can’t work as a physician without residency. Maybe after one year of residency but not if you haven’t matched. I did a live answering some question on what to do next. I the comments, there’s also lots of good suggestions of people on similar positions. I DIDN'T MATCH INTO RESIDENCY | Q&A kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4urmGasjbugmaM From personal experience, some residencies also frown upon working as a full fledged physician right out of medical school. Because you really don’t have enough medical experience to do that. They rather see research on your CV.
@TinaOnEarth3 жыл бұрын
@@drjennale okay thanks, yeah here in Missouri there is an assistant physician job for medical graduates that haven’t matched. but I wasn’t sure as to how that would be looked on a CV. @drjennale3 жыл бұрын
Research will definitely give you points but not sure how much it will pay. Scribing is better to learn medicine because you’re working one on one with a physician listening to their entire thought process when evaluating and treating a patient.

@drjennale3 жыл бұрын
I would disagree that my skills are deteriorating while practicing part time. We are still required to be up do date on guidelines and it’s not like I go months without practicing medicines. Secondly, working part time gives me the energy and empathy to give to my patients. My patients will also suffer if I am feeling burnt out. There is a systemic and institutionalized issue here that should be addressed.
