To see Elvis limp to the podium, unable to even skate that short distance, is at once sad and a testament to his fortitude. How that man got through that entire program with such a severe injury with his only flaw being that he didn't do a quad, I'll never know. Hat tip, Elvis.

He was all toughness,the toughest competitior out there, mentally. Sadly, the injury was the beginning of the end of his reign

@@ChristineTheHippie It would have ended anyway. He was 26 already, which is usually retirement age or beyond for a skater, and the thing that made him win before was being the only one with a consistent quad. Guys like Yagudin, Plushenko, were coming in who had quads coming out of their ears, plus better presentation scores too. I honestly think if he won here he would have gone pro as it was.

Not only 3 great skaters, but 3 incredibly hot guys. I could tell right away when Elvis started to skate and didnt try his quad that something was bad wrong. What a brave man he is.

Thanks for your kind words, this was a remarkable moment. Stojko was so tough to do that! And Joannie Rochette was definitely a highlight in Vancouver, she made all Canda proud. I criedmy eyes when Joannie broke down. Canada has never won gold in men's figure skating at the Olympics, although it's our strongest discipline in skating.

Chan would have won in 2014 even after some major mistakes, if he just landed the last double axel. How crazy, a freaking double axel. I couldn't believe he blew it after his only competition for the gold had a mistake filled program right before him.

Pretty darn amazing, he was so tough and nothing to him was an excuse. All focus. I had no idea he was injured until the end.

ELVIS SHOULD HAVE HAD A COUPLE GOLD...BUT JUDGES JUST DID NOT APPROVE. JERKS! BUT HE IS A MAN TO BE PROUD OF, AND YOU CANT HELP BUT LOVE HIM. WE LOVE THE WARM HEARTED PHILLIPPE TOO.

Stojko was in his shoes because his skates were getting too painful with his groin injury. You can see he was favouring his leg as he was standing. He was probably one of the toughest skaters out there. Kulik deserved his gold, no doubt.

The medal presentation this year was slightly different to that at previous Olympics. In 1992, as each medal winner mounted the podium, they were presented with their medals before the next place getter came out onto the ice & mounted the podium.

No, this Russian anthem is ''The Patriotic Song'' by Glinka. It was the official anthem from 1991 to 2000.
@3Axel1996

This was the original Russian National Anthem (pre-Soviet Union era) used between 1993 and 1998(?). Somehow, the Russian people felt that the anthem of the former Soviet Union was much more powerful, and therefore, the government adopted as the new Russian National Anthem.

If he's there, I'll be rooting for Patrick. His artistry reminds me more of my all time fave (Paul Wylie) than anyone else since. You're right about '84 too; love Scott but he got it on school figures which messed over so many skaters back then and Orser was a first rate program skater. It's good to talk to someone who can be civil about these things and not silly.

Brian Orser would have won Olympics in 84 if not for compulsories. You're right about Kurt, he had no luck at all, the ONLY thing he never won was an Olympic medal. Patrick definitely has a chance. Here's hoping. I think he will stay on top, he was off this year but that happens to everyone. He'll take a good look to see what went wrong this year. He never makes any excuses.

I'm surePatrick will be there. I loved Paul Wylie, saw him most as a professional, 1992 was a bit before I watched. That's where KZbin is great. can look back. Scotty is a great skater, but yeah he did get lucky in 84. Figures were the downfall of so many, glad they're gone. Yup, nice to have a real figure skating discussion. I'm a figure skating, have been since 1994.

is that the Russian anthem? it doesn't sound like the Russian anthem of today. Did they have a different one back then?

You should feel worse for Kurt Browning - he was special but when it came to the olympics disaster twice. At least skaters like Kwan, slutskaya , Asada and Medeveda got olympic medals.
