Love this video. Been hooping for a couple years now but never felt like I've actually learned anything. Then I watched this and was like "hey...I actually know how to do all of those!" Still working on my vertical hooping though.

You have the weirdest names for some of these moves lol I have never seen palm spins to be called that or for the barrel rolls and others lol
@mediatinker9 жыл бұрын
+crypandora66 I've learned from a rich and varied set of instructors around the world! Hoop moves have all kinds of names; there's no standard like in other flow arts. There are no palm spins or barrel rolls in this video, though!
@Saiege9 жыл бұрын
Kristen McQuillin So I figured! I just never heard of sparkle being for that move haha! I could have sworn I saw some palm spins!! or something very similar to both of those! Haha but great video! I would have been super scared to be up on the cliff in front of the ocean like that in fear my hoop would fly off the cliff! Haha
@christinegalusky76216 жыл бұрын
There are definitely barrel rolls in this video.
@mediatinker6 жыл бұрын
No, there are not. Barrel roll is an on-body move that transitions between earth (downward facing waist/shoulder hooping) and sky (upward facing waist/shoulder hooping). Maybe you are confusing a barrel roll with #32, the Iso Turn, which is an off-body move in the isolation family.
@christinegalusky76216 жыл бұрын
Kristen McQuillin when Iearned the iso turn (#32) I think it was referred to as an off body barrel roll and the transition between earth and sky version that you mentioned was the "on body barrel roll". Iso turn makes more sense! I've only been hooping for around three months or so now and have watched tons and tons of tutorials by hooper's of all ages and skills levels from all over the world, and everyone refers to everything a little differently I have noticed, it definitely gets confusing!

Thank you. I think my hoop is too big and heavy. What size and weight do u recommend?
@mediatinker4 жыл бұрын
It depends on what you want to do, what size your body is, how strong you are, how windy your environment is, how many delicate breakable object are near you, etc. My "go-to" hoop is a standard gymnastics hoop about 90 cm.

Be Lattin I've also seen it called just a hand spin? Here's a tutorial on it.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJzKcoF_ltWaqcU
@QueenofWooWoo6 жыл бұрын
Christine Galusky Thanks! I saw in a comment below that the creator said there are no spins in the video, so I thought it was something else. Lol
@christinegalusky76216 жыл бұрын
Be Lattin I think she meant that there are no palm spins in the video, which are a little different. The hand spin that she does here is twisting the wrist while holding onto the hoop, a palm spin is when you let go of the hoop and let it spin in your hand for a second.
@QueenofWooWoo6 жыл бұрын
Christine Galusky It does look the same as the one you shared. Thanks so much!

Is there another name for the Larissa hoop move? I want a tutorial but can't find any by that name
@mediatinker7 жыл бұрын
Larissa is the Australian name. It also goes by eggbeater, helicopter, twirly-something-or-other and several others. But a bunch of moves have those same names and it's confusing. So I always call this one Larissa. :-)
@Zimuahaha7 жыл бұрын

Kristen McQuillin Level2 for intermediate hoopers? Or kind of dictionary of all hoop moves sub-divided in beginner/intermediate/professional moves, maybe from A-Z ??
@mediatinker10 жыл бұрын
Heike Hoops I have tried to catalog hoop moves several times in the past 6 years. Different names for the same moves and a constant stream of new tricks makes it a daunting task. Divding tricks by level is arbitrary, ego-driven and not really useful. Professionals waist hoop. Beginners with acrobatics experience cartwheel. Pre-requisites might be a better way to organise it.
@kamikazekara4467 жыл бұрын
What ever happened to on body hooping!? Using your hoop like an actual hula hoop!! Shoulders, chest, legs, butt, neck, head, arms, moving the hoop up and down your body were all totally neglected :( Great video but I would argue that its essential for a hula hooper to be learning these moves, otherwise its more just prop manipulation than hula hooping. I love the fun of SPINNING your hoop around essentially any body part you can!
@mediatinker7 жыл бұрын
Waist hooping is the first move in the video and you'll find earth, sky, and elbows as well. Most of the demonstrated moves I've used in the WHD Dance project over the years where I don't include leg or chest/shoudler hooping in the choreography.
