Hi. I'm a Firefighter. I think the "old" gloves you are thinking of are Vinyl. I carry one of those rescue knives in my bunker pants as a 1 time use tool. I only expect it to break 1 window, cut one seatbelt, + cut one rope etc. .After that I will re-group and use it again if I need too. I don't expect it to last a life time, just get me thru 1 call

VINYL gloves were used as a latex alternative til nitrile got wider use. when I was doing home care I got vinyl gloves til the nitrile ones got stocked. I prefer the fit of nitrile over the vinyl gloves
