Oh my Im completely screwed. first off it took me almost 3 years to get the Ass degree in Rhit I also completed the CCS certificate before that. I feel like I didnt learn anything. Now im on the internet looking for videos to to help me so that I can go take the CPC and RHIT exam. I feel like I now have thousands in student loans and didnt learn anything. I did express this to the professors over and over and was just told oh you will learn in the field. Like how am I suppose to even get in the field if I dont know what im doing? I feel like the most I learned was how to use the code book. Your videos are great but just going over the guidelines Im lost. I wish I could slow the videos down a bit lol. Sorry about the rant Im freaking out because now I have to pay studen loans. If I cant pass the exams I wont get a job.

I have a question about Excludes 1. So, the guideline says that you can use the code under Excludes 1 if the conditions are unrelated, but my question is: when would that occur? My guess is that the provider would have to provide documentation explicitly stating that the conditions are unrelated. But other than that, how else can we know that we can use the exclude 1 code?

Exclude 1 dx code can’t are not coded together. Exclude 2 dx codes can be coded together.

Yes, there are huge changes every year for codes. The 2021 ICD-10-CM changes that take effect October 1 add over 500 new codes, 80+ deletions and 50+ revisions plus some changes to the guidelines as well.

On a chapter test, I stupitly got one wrong, where two answers had the same diagnosis codes, but in different orders. Int this case, you code the UNDERLYING condition first, right?

Sure. Look up "Pneumonia," in the alphabetic index. If you look under "specified NEC" it takes you to J18.8 which is Other Pneumonia, unspecified organism. Now look up "Bronchomycosis NOS" -- it takes you to B49 which is Unspecified mycoses.
