Thank you so much for this excellent and informative lecture! I keep wondering why there are not more efforts to help prevent postmenopausal bone loss in the first place?! Most women don’t know about the toll of estrogen loss on their bone health. There should be information campaigns, as well as information via primary care providers or gynecologists when a woman is, say 40 years old, to inform her about the risks to her health as she loses estrogen. We now know that the vast majority of women can safely take ERT or HRT, when it is initiated either in the perimenopause or within a few years of menopause. This is not to say that all woman “should” take HRT, but women should be given the choice, for which the information/knowledge is key. We also know that calcium and vitamin D do not work to prevent bone loss that is due to estrogen loss. So … why no nation- or world wide prevention efforts?? Who would be responsible to initiate this, and why don’t they? (I’m honestly wondering.) Thank you again, and sorry for the rant. 😊

hmmm, your rant is well received here. I think it had to do with a study that raised a lot of concerns about the risk of taking hormones as it may increase breast cancer potential. There were also studies that came out after refuting those points, but it remained the standard of care.

I have rheumatoid arthritis and take Humira for this. Wondering if there are some meds that shouldn’t be used. My primary suggested fosamax and my ra Dr mentioned Prolia. It is like they want me to be the dr and make the decision myself. Very scary drugs. The information in this video was very informative. Would love to see one about having ra and oesteoporsis. Thank you.

Dr Tsai thank you for the excellent webinar. May I ask if one is taking hormone replacement therapy first (and concurrently) would that mute the effects of Tymlos or Forteo? I know an anabolic should go first for severe osteoporosis but if one is already taking HRT and then is prescribed an anabolic would the HRT decease the benefits of Tymlos or Forteo? Thanks.

I thoroughly enjoyed this presentation and found it very informative. I appreciated her giving us dietary guidelines. How to calculate mg of calcium. Types of exercises to do and not do. I’m going to concentrate on these first. I have a real fear of some of the serious side effects I’ve heard about , so I’m not quite convinced about trying medication yet. Thank you again🙂 11:00

I have heard everyone say osteoporosis is a silent disease. But for me I have been feeling my bone burning in my spine for two years then the pain and many other such indications relating to bone issues but only just got diagnosed with osteoporosis after a wrist and knee fracture from a fall. So Iam not sure if osteo so silent, seems to be screaming for me.
