Thank you! Completely saved me from damaging my back even more!

Good advice, partly. Remember the single most important part of this exercise is slamming the ball down. There's no point doing what this guy is doing if you're just going to drop the ball at the top. You actually need to slam it down. Hard. They're called slams for a reason people!

Thanks. I'm new to ball slams and have been doing them incorrectly for the past two weeks. This week I'll do them properly

Now I know how to do it now thanks for this today I used a heavy one I was meant to lift it up with my bend down knees and do it in front of me and all the way up then drop it from behind that's not the way I did a bit of damage to my head so I meant to bend my knees and myself down then drop it from the front and slam not behind

good vid, one of my favorite workouts.. the medicine balls in my gym have more bounce where you dont have to crouch

Cus ur actually using a medicine ball. These are slam balls in the vid, a little misleading.

if it’s a type of ned ball that bounces back up should i catch it and put it over my head and throw it again or should i wait for it to get on the floor and squat down to get it?
@tonycress3 жыл бұрын
Those bouncy ones are good to get the reaction time. Just make sure it doesn't hit you in the face😋
@SteroidDOG4 жыл бұрын
That, is not a med ball. Lol. Common misconception. That is a slam ball, usually finished with a rubber cover, containing sand. Med balls are those usually much larger with a leather covering and solid center or varying weight.

Found this out the hard way tonight! I've been a member of a gym for 4 years where we commonly do what's called "med ball" slams. So I decided to slam a 12-lb. (real) med ball I've had at my house for years but never used. It bounce back up and hit my chin so hard I thought my face bones were broken! I'm going to tell the trainers at my gym that the balls we slam are called slam balls...NOT med balls. Maybe it will help save someone else from my mistake!
@stevenzak1996 жыл бұрын
Those are some good pointers on how to lift the ball up. One of the things I've wondered about is the slam itself. Some guys will bend over, almost a crunch, when they slam the ball down, while others -- like you -- stay rigidly upright when they slam the ball down. Since I've seen very credible guys doing it both ways, there must be benefits to both. Why do you prefer to stay straight and upright, rather than bending over, during the slam?
@MorawskiGRK5 жыл бұрын
I agree with everything that he said about lifting the ball (squatting, focusing on the good lower back posture), but I do the other half of the exercise completely different. For me medicine ball slams were always an exercise for abdominal muscles. I try to contract myself and slam the ball with the maximum power. I do it as an antagonistic assistance to deadlift with fantastic results.
@EliteTrainingForBasketball4 жыл бұрын
@@MorawskiGRK you're right, this example is wrong. You should be fully extended at the top - including on your toes - then BEND, don't squat, using your abs to come down as forcefully as possible.

What part of the body this workout
@tonycress2 жыл бұрын
This is a great total body exercise if done well. Chest shoulders, triceps, biceps upper back, and lower body are all involved

Because this is a core exercise wouldn’t emphasising the shoulder press defeat the exercise ?

what are the benefits of a ball slam workout ?
@tonycress8 жыл бұрын
It's highly metabolic, and, if it's done right, can add plenty of total body strength.
@jrufus118 жыл бұрын
+Tony Cress what do you suggest as a good length of time and would you suggest doing ball slams alone or only part of a circuit ?
@JimsMusicJourney5 жыл бұрын
Complete waste of time. There are better ways to target the same areas a lot better. The same people that promote this also promote walking around with a kettle with one hand in the air. Another complete waste of time.
@ThePresident19992 жыл бұрын
@@JimsMusicJourney It's crazy good for cardio though. As a wrestler, this also helps with a specific move called a "snap down." Not amazing for muscle gain, but you can also use heavier balls. They can go all the way up to 150lbs!

No, you're doing it wrong. Most people cannot squat to the floor. How you're doing it excludes most peoole from doing this exercise.
