Would you please tell me the mechanism of action with Minoxidil ? What does it do to K+ and Ca++ channels ? Please consider also the mechanism of Insulin ? I need to know it right away please Dr
@MedicosisPerfectionalis3 жыл бұрын
Hello dear, How are you doing? Minoxidil is a potassium-channel opener. That’s why it’s a vasodilator. Minoxidil opens potassium channels in blood vessels causing potassium efflux. When a positive ion leaves the cell, it leaves the inside more negative (i.e. hyperpolarization -> inactivation -> no contraction -> relaxation). Relaxation of smooth muscles -> vasodilation -> increased radius -> decreased resistance of vessel -> decrease blood pressure. That’s why minoxidil is used for hypertensive patients. Glucose (and Sulfonylureas) is a potassium-channel closer -> potassium stays in the pancreatic beta cell-> depolarization -> activation and opening of Ca channels -> calcium comes and ruptures insulin vesicles -> insulin release. Hope this helps! Best of luck to you!
