Your statement 'Castles aren't as hard to fight as wooden castles' schocked me. When I have to fight a castle, my rams catch fire before they are close to the gate, and men getting up a ladder will route after losing about 30 men. Every single time. I don't understand how you get the rams on the gate before they catch fire.

I have actually had occurrences where I leave a tiny garrison in a settlement, and a rebel half stack comes out of nowhere and takes it. It's rare, but if there are rebel armies un-accounted for then yes, they can and will if they sense an opening.

Gustav Hamnén Rebels do attack settlements, but I feel like the ones that do are remnants of old factions-- normally speaking, rebels don't even attack you out on the fields (unless they ambush you), and instead seem to just hang around watchtowers instead. It probably has something to do with their AI though. If I had to guess, the AI of rebels that were remnants perhaps still retain their AI behaviour from when they were a faction, as opposed to 'naturally spawning' rebels.

Jason Pollock Yes, they can. I had many of my undefended settlements getting attacked by rebel parties ( some of them even just had 1 peasant unit but still wanted to have a go at it. )
