11:45 that is a blacksmiths mark. Each and every one of them had their own marking way back when and is still practiced today. This looks to be a dinner knife and from the ring it makes tells me how good the steel is. Suggesting whoever made it wanted a high price due to how expensive it was to create the grade of steel in the dark ages.

The project came out nice, BUT........ I'm going to call unlikely on the medieval part of it. I've pulled old high carbon steel files out of the ground that had maybe been there 20 or so years that were just as rusted and pitted as that blade. AGAIN...... nice project, but a little suspect on the estimation of the age.

Would love to see you drop some text in to let the viewer know what chemicals and equipment you use. Maybe label the steps so viewers know exactly what you are doing. That helps them get a little knowledge so they can go save some history too.

Thanks. Judging by the place where he was found, he is at least 200-300 years old. Unless, of course, he was lost there later.
@daneelgiskard43893 жыл бұрын
@@OldRusty 300 years old is not "medieval" by any means: you're falling short by at least another 200 years just to get to the very end of that period...

You did a great job in restoring the knife. What is the history of the blade. Is the blade made of steel or iron?
@OldRusty3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. most likely it is iron ... the history of the creation of the blade is unknown ... found in the surrounding mountains.

So you made a knife out of a piece of corroded metal? No more a "restoration" than if I ground down an old railroad spike and stuck a handle on it. Good thing it wasn't a valuable artifact 🙀🙀

That knife is about as Medieval as my old underwear, but I guess any lie is a good lie if it gets you what you want.

The knife was found in a ploughed field at the site of a settlement of the 15th-17th centuries. Did you find your underwear in a similar place?

@@OldRusty If it was that old, it still doesn't qualify as "medieval." And no archaeologist who certified it as that old would allow someone to "restore" such an artifact.
