The LEGO Icons 10305 Lion Knights' Castle set is an amazing way to celebrate the 90th Anniversary of LEGO, it is massive, has tons of features and an army of minifigures, but is this the best choice for $400? We compare it to the combined 3-in-1 Creator 31120 Medieval Castle set for $300, and also see if the $150 Ideas 21325 Medieval Blacksmith set works with either of them.

Well...Blacksmith looks just a little smaller. if u put Blacksmith a little bit away and/or lower in landscape, it could work just fine. However Blacksmith really doesn't fit to any medieval set so far due to height (except Tower of Orthanc and Disney castle, conditionally also new Lion castle).

for some reason, I like the smaller one better. It's modular, more colorful and doesn't look like a concrete brick. Plus it has the obvious "cooler" knight faction for 1/4 of the price

i kinda want the blacksmith but everytime i look at the set i feel like it is oversized compared to the minifigs. Especially the dinning room area with those giant chairs. No doubt they did a great job in details but the overall size just does not fit with what i consider "proper minifig scale" ... still thinking about buying it though xD maybe i'm wrong and it's an overwhelmingly awesome set... if not, i could still take the bricks and moc something cool with them.

I bought Blacksmith on the first day. After I was done building it, and having seen people spend $10k on just a big castle, and more for the town, I knew that I had to build an epic castle layout, a combination of MOC's and double-sized sets. I went through great cost & shipping delay to get 2 copies of 10193 to double-size the market buildings and get those old minifigs. I'm glad to pay new prices; you get a lot of bricks compared to vintage sets. I'm not sinking any more money into vintage. Especially with VIP points & GWP with new sets. After a double Barracuda Bay (insane build - Barracuda Shipyard) I got a second Blacksmith and rebuilt it double size; 2 forges, 2 windows up top, 2 staircases, and a back door. It's so satisfying because it's more symmetrical now! I combined one of the 3-in-1 castles with my daughter's Disney Belle Castle. I am currently parting out 3 more to build the blue roof tall castle from Rebrickable that Bricksie & Duck Bricks both just completed. I want to set up a forest outside the eventual castle town with 2 or 3 Forest Hideouts hidden among tall trees. Going to re-MOC the Treehouse into a Forest Defender main base. I don't have space to build the whole layout, but I can display some on a shelf and some on the table for now!

To me the Medieval Blacksmith house looks to be the nicest designed. The color scheme, the fully enclosed design like the modular building sets, and tiny details inside and out. Nicest doesn't have to be biggest though some may argue it isn't a castle which of course it isn't.

The 3 in 1 is a good purchase. Not only do you get the default 3 builds, and if you buy 3 of them you can have all 3 simultaneously connected, there are also MOC's out there that utilise 3 sets. I've seen one MOC that has details on par with the Lion Knight's Castle. No doubt as the LKC becomes more common there will be MOC's for it as well, but for someone on a budget getting 3 of the 3 in 1 over time could still be a better purchase.

I've still got tons of classic Castle Lego from childhood! These modern sets are much more colourful and detailed of course. The prices make me glad I haven't got kids though 🙂

If I was going to buy 3 of the 3-in-1 castle, I'd use them to build one of the MOCs I've seen because they look better than combining the 3 individual versions.

I did that and built the mocscout Fortress and it's amazing. It's massive and you get a lot of good parts leftover to build other stuff. It looks way better than 3 of the official ones pieced together

I already have multiple 3-in-1 castle sets and I plan on getting at least one of the Lion Knight's Castle sets. My plan is to use 10305 to build a central keep, similar to the set as designed, and use the 3-in-1 sets to build an outer wall with multiple towers. I don't have any more details than that in my planning yet.

I recently built the Black Falcon Knights Castle alternative build/ MOC on rebrickable - my first time doing a build this way. Was very impressed with the build and final result. Got the three sets on sale and would definitely recommend this as an option. Am still interested in the new big castle, but yes… quite expensive.

Don't forget that the having 3x 3-in-1 contains A LOT of spare parts to build on more castle. Much better value. Use the savings to get desired minifigs.

Right now the medieval blacksmith set is my most favorite one that I own because of how detailed it is. Absolutely love all the little details throughout the entire build. The next one I must absolutely get is the lion nights castle just because I can see from all the reviews it is equally or more detailed but on a bigger scale. Just need to save up a little more to get it.

Here in northern Poland real castles are usually build of red bricks. Red brick 🧱 castle would be much more appealing to me. Also Creator castle will go up in price soon so 3x will also cost 400 Euros.

The standard 3-in-1 castle is gorgeous, but it is a victim to the same problem most of the 3-in-1 sets have. The alternate builds have some really ugly compromises as far as color and part usage goes. I would probably find a custom alternate build or just do three of the regular castles. My Lion Knight’s Castle is on the way, and I’m excited, but I have to say I am disappointed by how much the Blacksmith is going to make it less grand looking. I may have to figure out a way to elevate the castle next to the Blacksmith

Though I will get the Lion Knights' Castle set , the Creator 3-in-1 is the best value. I was fortunate to find them on sale at Costco for a "regular" price of $75/each. Having multiple sets can be fun for MOCs or rebrickable variants.

For me, the Creator 3 in 1 is by far the best. The Blacksmith's doesn't feel like Castle; the Lion Knights' Castle just isn't nostalgic enough (as someone who grew up with the original Castle theme). It looks more like the later Castle sets (except the lack of black walls, I guess) and feels way over complex in it shaping.

Great review! I got the 90th anniversary castle few weeks ago. I thought it was really well designed. With lots of great minifigs. Only real disappointment were the textile banners that only had prints on one side :/ really expected both sides to be printed ... Will buy the 3in1 castle for christmas :) maybe twice. The alternative builts look nice. And about that creature in the 3in1-High Tower, i think it is a baby dragon. :)

You can also build a lot of different castles when you look at rebrickable. There is a nice version of the old 6086 made out of just two 3in1 castles.

the creator castles, in scale, would be more of a Keep or a Stronghold, which really means all three sets can exist in your Lego fantasy universe. The Keep can be guarding the pass leading to the village that sits at the foot of the big Castle. Everything is to minifigure scale here after all.

Well, if you want to have an impressive castle, that looks like a castle and not like a toy, I recommend overcoming brand boundaries and buying Burg Blaustein from Bluebrixx. You can start for 200$ with a Fortified Keep and upgrade it as desired and as budget allows to a really massive castle complex (with a total of 22k bricks). Biggest Downside: it comes without minifigs but I just bought a bunch of them on Bricklink. Second Choice for me would be Lion Knight's Castle. It's heading the right direction with its non-rectangular footprint. I don't like the Creator set at all. At least not as a display set. For kids I has its value. I just don't see what it has to offer to adults. The blacksmith is a great and wonderful buliding but looks oversized next to all of the other sets mentioned, including Castle Blaustein. A great display set but nothing for your medeival diorama/village.

Great video, thanks for showing all these together! I love the blacksmith set, and I'm really on the fence about the big castle - but only because of the price, I love absolutely everything about it. I also enjoyed the creator castle at the time, but it just looks messy with way too much fantasy colours and decorations that don't belong on a medieval castle, and also don't match the classic castle style of Lego...especially if you add the extra builds.

I think you should combine the new lion knights castle with the blacksmith, maybe scale it a bit. Of course you can also add the 31109 inn as a medieval building. Maybe multiple of them, delete te mast on the roof. Maybe moc them here and there. Which will grand you a small town. And by adding the farm barn (animals and vegetables) of city, without the modern minifigs, and change the roof colour to tan or yellow and the village can be build better.

I have boutht 2 of the 3 in 1 castles for €150 new when it was on discount. There is a great MOC you could get from rebrickable with Just 2 castles and it is cooler than the 3 combined in this video but it doesn't have parts left for the dragon. Anyways... Very cool video as always! Really cool that you compare the 3... Ik always wondered how they look next to eachother en you did it!

All 3 builds (meaning, the 3 ways to build to the Creator Castle) can be combined. Or, one could use all the pieces for a larger MOC build. HOWEVER: those options fall victim to minifig repetition. (not much variety of figures for the additional structures/pieces)

To build a medieval minifigure at 'pick a Brick' costs between 2,5 and 5 €, depending on the figure design, the amount and sort of accessories and hair/headwear. So if you buy the 3in1 version three times to build the big one with all three builds, you could still buy between 20-50 minifigures for the same budget of 400€. Again: depending on the parts you buy.

Imma just get all 3. Black falcons and lion knights are my 2 favorite factions in the whole thing. I definitely think they did a lot better on the blacksmith because of how much smaller it is. But the giant castle has so many different play features that makes it live up to the price. Not to mention you also get a couple forestmen.

I can't wait to get the Lion's Castle!! I was waiting to see someone upload a video with a clear size comparison to all these builds as I thought the blacksmith would fit right in with all its unique details. I'm shocked and disappointed that the blacksmith is on a larger scale than the castle, but I hope that maybe if I combine it with that village set from multiple years ago it might blend together a little better? Who knows. I'd love to see more videos comparing the lion knight's castle to older sets and seeing what fits if you're up for that!!

If I were to display the blacksmith set next to the big castle, I would go to rebrickable and get instructions to rebuild the blacksmith into a smaller house that doesn't dominate the landscape as much. There's a pretty nice chapel to be built, for example.

I have the opposite opinion: I think, the 3in1 castle is the worst of the 3 set. That has small "holes" as interiors, small in every scale (narrow towers, low walls), and it looks more like kid's colorful toy than a lifelike castle. You can build big castle when you buy more boxes? That's bullshit, because this is true by the other 2 sets also: with 2 or 3 Lion Castle I can build a more huge one... I think the blacksmith is a very good, very detailed in- and outside set. It has high playability but also fit to any medieval diorama. The new Lion Castle looks also good, and it has proper interior sizes with proper furnitures, so it looks promising to me. I like lifelike things more than cartoonish things, so the new Lion Castle is more like a real castle for my eyes than the 3in1 set. It has proper wall heights, real towers and the whole structure is more similar to a real castle than any other castle set in the past. So on my top list the blacksmith is the first, the new Lion Knight's Castle is the second and the 3in1 set is the 10th... :)

Medieval Blacksmith is my favorite build from last year. I'm more of an 18+ fan, so the other two are more play sets compared to the display piece of Blacksmith which looks stunning.

i bought 2 little castle sets for 160€ together and builded the MOC, which combines 2 Castels, from this and its a very good castle for playing and display.

I bought 4 of the 3-in-1 Creator castle sets and flanked the main build castle with two towers built in mirror image fashion with the gargoyles facing outward, but rotated the top halves of the towers so the telescopes face out as well, so they're not staring at each other, as well as being able to build the other secondary builds and incorporate them in with the main castle and the two towers. Looks pretty cool, but I ordered the Lion Knight's Castle because it looks much more substantial, as well as for all the minifigs. The Creator castle only comes with 4 minifigs I think, which is pretty sad in my opinion.

By the way, my experience, from the regular stores are, Lego in reality is really increasing the prices in the new sets and leaving much of the old ones alone. Not on paper nor based on the official Lego prices but this is the real market experience imho. So at the moment if you can buy still existing more than half year old aviable sets the price difference will be a lot even if you compare very similar style and sized sets.

Thanks for that interesting comparison approach. I would have loved to see some sort of Forestmen hideout or enchanted forest castle adaptation in the 100-150 Euro price range as an addition to the simple GWP and the big new Castle. But the blacksmith building is also worth thinking about.

For me is no doubt, Lion Knight castle any time. It's for adults and the smaller "dwarf" castle is for kids. It just oustand both other sets. So big, so many details, features, minifigs... and also it has this nostalgia touch. Just awesome set. And grey walls suppose to be grey - it represents rocks lol. Surprisengly Blacksmith is almost as big as Lion castle, not a perfect ratio to be next to each other, but not so close can fit in the medieval landscape just fine I believe😁

I bought 3 of the 31120 set, so I could build the MOC that requires 3 sets. It's quite a big castle with lots of details, on par with building techniques of official lego sets. Didn't cost me €300 either, bought them all at a €25 discount, so I saved €75. Nevertheless, I'm still going to buy the Lion Knights castle, Lego Castle was my childhood

Personally I don't think this is priced bad at all... Considering all the playability that you would get out of that and The three to four hours that it would take to put it together, that's a pretty good time. I mean if you gave this to a kid who was into Legos chances are they play with it for years...

You had to be the first guy to do this much awaited comparison 🙏🏼🤗 (please correct me if I'm wrong afols ☺️👍🏼)...the blacksmith's scale looks way off compared to the new lion knights castle🤦🏻‍♂️...also I forgot to mention it in your earlier video 🤦🏻‍♂️...but i do think that Lego missed the opportunity to have a small royal throne room in the new castle as well... we've kinda got two armouries, a small one at the entrance and a larger one at the top, but no throne room 😟, just the queen's royal chambers 🙏🏼 ...we just need to wait for the mocs now I guess 🙏🏼, but as this set's pricey, we gotta have a li'l more patience 🙏🏼

Why would a non-official MOC be a more fair comparison than an official combined build? There are many MOCs out there already, it'd be also a tough choice to pick a single one for the comparison.

@@RacingBrick Because official creator set sucks. Set is amazing, value for money spent is maybe best at the moment, but build is just not worth of commenting. And if you check around, those mocs already got allot of attention among other youtubers who are doing lego reviews

Not exactly, the price is the only problem. With generic discount in average shops you can almost buy 5 creator castles instead of the new big one. Yeah not the same figs but with that much of bricks combining with many available awesome builds already available for 3+ creator castles I think we're better off with the cheaper ones sadly. About two thirds of a price for the big one would be realistic.

I personally would not decide between these sets - but I would definitely buy all three sets and if my wallet would allow it - more pieces. In fact, they are all very unique sets of the entire history of lego.
