I really appreciate that you talk about everyday, ordinary people, not just emperors and kings and wars. I like learning about the average person’s life. The first “Is it a girl or a boy?” Infographic: I had two girls. No nausea with either. My mother had me and two boys. Her sickness was horrible with my brothers. Pica is actually quite common in the animal world. Pregnant females, in particular, are drawn to things like clay and other kinds of earth or mineral because their bodies need the minerals that are naturally present in them. As for giving a woman with pica beans with sugar, beans are high in folic acid. If a mother's diet doesn't have enough folic acid during pregnancy, it can cause her child to develop with a cleft lip or palate aka a "hare lip." Avoidance of cleft palates is probably why pregnant women were advised to avoid eating hare's heads

I really enjoyed this video. My only issue is that, even in the medieval times, there had to have been women who knew that they were pregnant before they felt any fetal movements/quickening. Oftentimes, in first pregnancies, quickening isn't felt until 20 weeks or more. There are early signs that indicate pregnancy besides missing periods--morning sickness, breast tenderness, weight gain, and fatigue. I realize that, even now, there are cases in which women don't even realize that they are pregnant until they go into labor, but they are not common. Given how important it was for royal women to produce heirs, I would bet that they, as well as their ladies in waiting and midwives, kept an eye out for symptoms of early pregnancy
