next time you solder a mosfet you should really push it better against the board for better thermal performance, dont let it float like a bga IC, especially the gpu phase mosfets.

Late answer: Of course, there is not any cooling achieved through the power planes at the bottom of the IC, because those copper planes are finally gone. So the only option is a thorough cooling from the top side. The former cooling from top side can be overworked and made nicely thermal connection to the heatsink. If there's no testing of the temperature by software (it's possible to make a read-out of the temperature directly from the Dr-MOSFET), use a multimeter with the little temperature measuring cable and the little "pill" at the end.

Wow, this is inspiring, trully a phenomenal repair. I assume you found the schematics for that laptop? If not, maybe an compatible one? It makes me wonder if it's possible to follow the same logic with the datasheet "sample" circuit. Great job as always! Cheers!

Honestly, this repair was done without schematics for this device. The only help was the circuit diagram i shared, the actual datasheet of the MP2886 PWM Controller and the Pinout of the DrMOS i found in the web. Best regards!

At least in this case it was not necessary. Got all needed informations from the PWM controller datasheet and the Linout of the PowerStage. The schematics for this device are available, though. If I remember correct.

For +GPU_CORE, I honestly can't imagine such a solution. :D

Late answer: This is a very good idea! But it's very difficult to achieve because those Dr-MOS switches are synchronised for PWM frequency, phase, output current, temperature, and, most important, output voltage. Even if you care only for the output voltage, it'l be a very hard engineering job to achieve. But not impossible. Not a job for an LM317. 😂😂
