I had a vegan housemate who held a bbq for her vegan friends. Hardly any of them brought food with them so we had to feed them whilst they proceeded to criticise us for having dairy in our fridge. One of them was a raw vegan who looked like he was going to pass out from not eating enough, he ate the entire bowl of guacamole id made to himself as it was the only thing he could eat and he hadn't brought any food with him.

And 2, are you claiming that having a vegan compatible diet is not sustainable in a health context? In which case, provide some good evidence, as I can show you a tonne of high quality review papers arriving at the conclusion that plant based diets (if done appropriately) can not only be healthful long term, but it seems to suggest that they confer health benefits (lower risk all cause mortality, and a range of others). Finally, I want to point out that you seem to confuse what veganism is. Veganism is an applied ethical position focused on animal rights. It has absolutely nothing to do with the environment. The fact that there are eco benefits is just a bonus. So I don’t know why you even brought up the word “eco”.

Yes, people calling for taking the fight to corporations but defending eating their steak (always on the ultimate argument that it's just too good) completely miss the point in the case of vegetarianism, which is that it's not the production conditions that are to change but the very fact of killing animals when it's not necessary. When vegans take the fight to the big corporations and manage to have meat production banned, carnists will be very surprised to find out what fighting corporations mean. Vegetarians trying to convince other people is not only to change their behaviour but also to envision a future where justice applies to animals and to make that part of their political projects. If no one ever cares, political parties will never take upon it.

I don't see the issue in vegans using leather. Animals haven't died for your belts and daddy issue boots alone, their hides are a biproduct of meat production, just like organ meats. Letting leather rot in favour of inferior alternatives like plastic leather, is not only wasteful, but also more polluting as you're making new plastic to use in place of existing leather, that only needs to be tanned.

That's not true, cows are also raised for leather only, it's not the same type of cow because you need different things from them. Also by definition, veganism is not using animal products and leather is animal product. Certainly 2nd hand leather seems ok, although there's the question of the acceptation of putting an animal at that place, as an object that you wear, symbolically there's good reason to refuse to wear even 2nd hand leather, and some people may think symbolics don't matter, well others thinks it does in a way.
