Awesome video man! Super informative. I actually pulled it up to get some ideas for modding my newly purchased medium ALICE pack with frame. I'm fairly new to the outdoors/survival game so thanks for the videos, I'll definitely be watching more of them! BTW, you got a GREAT deal on your pack! Mine cost $70 with shipping.

although from the UK, i have to say i have used a couple of medium alice packs (with and without frames) over the years for smaller trips - and love them.. for some reason they carry whatever, and it pretty much always fits perfectly and comfortably on my back... love the medium alice pack!

Great pack good gear to have. I would recommend you displace the weight of it a little better. Look into getting a utility belt from military surplus store and some alligator clips. I suggest you place your canteen/s on it. Also I would recommend using the gurnard pouches on the mag pouch to hold the circle containers you have inside. Remember, lighter equipment on the sides and heavier in the middle. That being said, you have to set it up the way you feel comfortable. These are just observations. Good luck out there and continue to improve your skills friend. Fortas Fortuna Juvat 2/3 Marines

I just finished watching your video on your Alice pack. Well thought out. May I offer a suggestion? During many years serving as an Intelligence technician in Air Force Fighter Squadrons the pilots had three survival kits. The one attached to the chute, and two which they could carry in the flight suit pockets. One had some secret items, gold money a Blood chit. and other small survival items. The third kit was the pilot's personal idea kit. However, there were two items we placed in their two personal kits, Chap stick and a packet of rubber condoms. I wasn't a flier but I always carried chap sticks in my kit and the condoms. The condoms made excellent water bags; if you unrolled them, cut off the roll tip, cut off the nipple, then slit the it lengthwise, it made an excellent waterproof bandage material. Also, in a pinch if you had to swim a creek or river, you cold insert a full fatigue suit into one. With the Chap sticks, you pinch a bit off, massage it thru your fingers and you have an excellent lubricant for any part of the body. Just ideas that worked for me and my troops. Gil' Estrada
@Sarah_Kinz
@Sarah_Kinz 5 жыл бұрын
Gilbert Esrada just wanted to comment condoms are worthless. I seen ppl filling them up and if the water isn’t deep enough or enough pressure in a lake or stream it won’t fill and it’ll pop before. You’re better off with those deflatable water bladders that are specifically designed for it. It’ll keep deflating before any water can fill it

For the buckles on my medium and large, I just cut the metal ones off and bought a MOLLE II buckle repair kit, and the female buckles just fit onto the loop of fabric where the old buckles used to be, and the male buckles slide onto the straps. A cheap and easy repair that really improves the functionality of the pack. I also upgraded the shoulder straps to the camo ones and sternum strap, and added a molle ii waist belt. Great for about 65 lbs or so.

Enjoyed your vid, today I bought a brand new large Alice pack and the guy/owner that was helping me lays it on the floor and stepped on it pushing the metal cross out way from your back, were you have it padded. Afterwards he shows us his pack, the other cool thing that he did in that area is he trimmed out one of those flat gardening knee pads with the handle, slid it up under green mesh to the top frame bar n between both side bars so itpads that cross and you pull it out to sit on

I've had friends who have used modified Alice packs and Molle packs and when they switched over to "modern" packs they never used military style packs ever again. It really is that much of a difference. Regardless one mans comfort may not be anothers. The most important thing is to get out there in the wilderness and have fun.

hey , you know we used to put a machete straight down the top into the pack, good for "springy" when walking. we also cut the ISO Mat and wrap it around the shoulder straps, after a few miles the straps wont "bite " into you.... just something i remembered.. goodluck

Hi! We can see you put a good amount of thinking into the making of your rucksack! Hammock is not that great to sleep in but quite ok for a nap or for camp chair. You should go for an additionnal 2 Qt canteen for I dont think 1 Qt is enough per day for cooking and drinking water. Alice packs with frame is one of the best bag you can have. The frame alone can be used to carry a jerrican or firewood around camp. Add a saw blade, ear plugs -to sleep when it rains on your tarp-, a tube of superglue.

Great video Kenny! Disregard the negativity you may hear on here, as you have a good head on your shoulders. Talk about Dave as much as you like, as he is full of good information as well. I've always had one of those wrist rockets since I was a kid, still have one to this day, but never seen a "sling-bow". I can see the concept, just never seen it before....going to check to see if you did a video on that as well. Once again, great work, that's a great pack, I have one myself.

It seems that some people are torn on the the duck tape issue. I like to carry a roll or a half roll myself. the way I do it is.... 1st you take the roll and score the cardboard. Then you peel it away from the tape. 2nd step is to press the roll together and let the adhesive glue itself to either side. I like to leave it in a vise for a while. The finished product is a roll of tape in the form of the credit card style. More tape ...less room it takes up! Keep up the good vids

Great video, one thing Id like to mention for you to think about it is Noise. You have attached alot of cool stuff outside and inside your pack. But I think you need to think about the amount of noise you will produce while walking in the woods or bugin out. Walking alone when the SHTF the last thing youd want is attention so think about quietingall the goodies you have like the nails..

Hey man, very nice set-up. Kits are always a work in progress, so keep changing and adding stuff as you go along. Also I would say to keep in mind that just because you have room in your bag, that doesn't mean you have to fill it up. One last thing, first-aid is important, so don't be afraid to carry a comprehensive FAK with you. Hopefully you'll never need it, but if you or a buddy ever do, you'll be glad you had it. Just my 2 cents. Peace.

theres only one size alice frame that fits either pack. I have one large, one medium, and I just swap the frame out between them depending on how much I need to pack. Cheaper that way, and it only takes a couple minutes to swap the packs out. Hope I helped you and stay safe out there.

Some things go into your pockets when on the long March, which a Bugout would be in reality, Like your land nav kit. Just wanted to say, since you don't have a lot of A.L.I.C.E. gear on there. Look into getting an ALICE mag pouch. It has a tool loop on either side and will give you another pouch for storage plus the ability to hang your hatchet and possibly another tool too. They run about $5. My Med. ALICE is set up pretty similar to yours. Main difference being instead of primitive shelter, I carry a 2per backpacking tent strapped to the bottom. It takes up the same amount of space as an 8x10 tarp.

@MrM47a That's a tough one to judge. A lot of it has been collected by me over the past couple years. Most of it I bought, other stuff was given to me. I would say maybe 100-120 dollars over a long span of time. I'm buying about 67 dollars worth of more gear to replace the stuff I have now with higher quality things. There's varying levels of quality of stuff you can get. Some you can get by with, some you can't. If you can afford it, get the nice stuff!

In regards to your sharpener for a machete, I picked up a DMT folding 2 grit stone (coarse/fine) that works pretty well at giving a decent edge on a machete and it really works well when just giving a simple hand sharpening. Also, it weighs almost nothing if you are concerned about weight. I am not sure how well it will work on an axe though.

@TheGWood89 I do have a pretty advanced me kit. Duct tape, bandanna, needle. If I've just killed an animal and processed it and have blood residue on my hands I'm definetely going to put the gloves on. Putting a tourniquite on is definetely treating a wound and I can do that.

Great vid! I'm in the process of collecting molle straps, belt and mss carrier for the "hellcat" upgrade. The altoid candle is genious. For cheap, quality gore-tex boots.
