I just love stories of bodega cats, shop cats, school cats, library cats, church cats, train station cats, police cats, and other such felines, because it's always obvious how much comfort and happiness they bring to visitors and employees alike. A local nursery in my area has an orange tabby cat as a resident, and I always make sure to give him pets when I visit. Like Daniel, he's friendly and docile, but I don't believe he's been given a name.

Yes they are great. A few years ago there was a story about a cat that came to the local post office in a small town every day when it opened and stuck around in the lobby in the front window and everyone loved it except some jerk that complained about postal regulations and got the cat kicked out permanently. I hope that the person who did it finds his special level in Dantes Inferno. Someone rented a post office box there and had people send letters and cards of support for the cat.

Humans are so pathetically dumb not to notice the virtues of having a cat in a shopping premise, be it a grocery store, a convenience store, etc. It has beem my personal experience that most of us humans are churlish and grumpy in the course of our visits to stores, and so seeing and fondling a cat stimulates us to bring about that much needed smile and euphoria that will indeed make our day. Cats and kittens are seductively sweet, cuddlesome and huggable little angels.

I love how the dad has his morning coffee with Daniel! I totally understand how Daniel can give the dad a feeling of completeness he had lost. Daniel depends on the dad for company and affection, which is what the dad needed too. Daniel has a great personality for a shop cat. He tolerates being poked at by well-meaning toddlers (it’s part of his job!).

The local grain store around my area has a shop cat...shes hugely obese...(don't know what they are doing about it) but she is syper friendly and every time I go I play with her a bit while im waiting to get to the register...shes sweet

You should drop a gentle hint to the store owner to cut out kibble and feed grain-free and starch-free canned instead, because letting an animal become obese is cruel. It's feeding dry food -- kibble -- that's the culprit causing obesity. Kibble is full of obesity-causing carbs from the manufacturing process, and is extremely dehydrating for a cat's body. Since cats have an evolutionary very low thirst drive, they can never drink enough water to compensate. In addition to getting fat they end up with kidney disease, diabetes, urinary blockage, allergies, etc.
