I don’t know with scrapbooking and water bottles and chrome books she should have made stickers. Graphic Design became a thing. Who knew? Even stamps and envelopes don’t have to be licked.

@@kristinesharp6286 In 1997, labels were the extent of graphic design that could be produced outside a specialist workshop. Unless you went into video, where you could, with some fairly expensive equipment, add titles to home video tapes (DVD'S came out that year). PowerPoint existed but was still really only for slides, Adobe was Photoshop, DTP was still pretty rough, (PageMaker, anybody?), if you wanted something more complex made you had to send off for it to be produced. Using email and copying a picture from the internet was still regarded as an adventure.

We don't know for certain that she hasn't been, but the fact that she went to London to abort James makes it very likely that she was single at the time. In this scene, she says that her ex-husband Paul was controlling & insecure, then says that James' father was the same - hence they can't be the same man. Also, James mentions growing up with a stepfather.

She is self absorbed. To her they would ex husbands not his father. But it’s is ambiguous. He may have been or may not have been. It would be assumed she would have been single when pregnant to go to England for an abortion. Probably just to the leave cause a single parent would have been a problem. Maybe she later married him? With all the English talk I wonder if James’s dad was a Protestant? Another reason to leave and raise him elsewhere and not draw attention to the dad.

Computers in 1997 weren't really set up for producing arty label sheets. They had about the same capabilities as the earlier generations of smartphones. It's so easy these days that frankly, buying them in may be a more limited market than in 1997, when you may have needed someone to either design and print them for you or at least to shrink down your own design without too much aliasing and keeping them as legible as possible.

It used to be that how far away you called cost more than near by for a land line. Also across state lines. You could live 5 minutes from a border state and pay long distance charges by the minute. They also had phone lines you could call for a service like a party chat line or horoscope line that was by the minute. 20 minutes and you a charge enough to fill the car with gas. So she called to listen to a horoscope or have her fortune done and her mom got quite a shock when she opened the phone bill.
