@@AlBICIDI Death has only known darkness from taking people's lives. So Death took on a human form to understand what life and living is all about...to understand its meaning. While being Joe Black, he experienced all the emotions and struggles that humans go through everyday (i.e. love, anger, sadness, joy, compassion, empathy, etc.). He had to experience love to understand hate. He had to experience joy to understand misery/sadness. He had to experience all the emotions opposite to what he's only ever known. Towards the end of the movie, when Joe Black finally understood the meaning of life, he "took" William Parrish's (Anthony Hopkins) life, then they showed the fireworks which is a symbol of celebration - a celebration of Parrish's birthday/life. Then they showed Brad Pitt "coming back to life." Joe Black gave back the life that he took from Pitt because he learned/experienced what love is from Susan Parrish (Claire Forlani). So that scene was the symbol of life's new beginning and an end.
