Technically, this was to be a bit of back story on a character I had made a few years ago. It started as a brief “He used to have a good friend as well as a lover, but both were killed by his own hands” backstory, but I decided to actually try my hand at storytelling. It explains why there is hardly anyone who knows him personally. There was a bit of home brewing my DM was allowing and, as many, he was partial to The Elder Scrolls. I always liked the Argonians, so I figured a Dragonborn character would be nice to use. Sadly, we only got a few sessions in before some of us couldn’t make it to a few sessions and the campaign fell through. I appreciate all the feedback I’ve seen so far. I have been working on his story from when he was a youngling, which would explain more about how he met Obadiah and, later on, Angela, what turned him to the life of killing, and explain a few “missing” details.

I've been giving thought to using many of the characters in these stories as NPC's in an upcoming campaign. My son Josef, and a couple of his friends want to play. They all know these stories, and would at least have some suggestions of the important NPC's they would come across.

One of my most beloved characters started as an Assassin (2nd Edition special Thief subclass). His targets were just nasty corrupt folks that couldn’t be nailed any other way, and when out in the normal adventuring environment, whatever needed eliminated monster-wise.

Weakly he smiled and said it is the power of the game. DM had everyone enthralled with how he closed out out Campaign, our Arcs came to a closes and I went back the Faewild with my own tales to tell. I had one last health Potion in my inventory, and in every game since. I still have that poke chip, from that very last game, DM's last game, on this Plane at least, I miss him. And I am trying to emulate him, by being the best DM I can be and letting my Players have fun as they go in there adventure. "Heroes all, you are this day. You saved the Realm, for lifetimes to come." I hope that things are good for him and DMing for the greats.

Power gaming isn't really a big issue, you can do it, just actually roleplay and interact with the Gameworld and other players and try not to hog the spotlight, look at grog from critical role, he constantly is a combat beast, but he also constantly interacts and includes his fellow players and npcs in his roleplay as well as combat he roleplays in that too. Do that, and you'll be an excellent player

Matt chose to take the Disadvantage and for a while we were okay. That was until were cleaning out a cave of Koblods, I had tore up my clothes to make booties for Matt and myself "This will help thanks Rosie." and he hugged me, in and out of game. DM smiles at me and says. "Roll with disadvantage, but add plus 2 to your disadvantaged roll." Matt and I were able to just squeak up the patrols after that. Having gotten the cave/mine cleaned of the Koblods I thought we need a treat; booties with Silence on them for Matt and I and some other thing. We headed to our DMPCed Magic Shop, we saved his cat from a stray Gnoll; and while everyone was on a Bathroom break; I slipped the DM a note on the wands I wanted made for us. DM had me roll for one of the wands for later reference. When we returned to the shop three in game days later, Colten wasn't there, he was in the back of the shop playing with the wands he had just made us. two wands of Dancing Lights one I kept the other traded hands. A Wand of Pie for our Mother hen Cleric-Paladin, Morty liked to RP over food. A Wand of Knock for our Rogue, Liz had had bad rolls of late. A Wand of Color for Matt; it more or less a can of paint so he could tag things ever we went, it can in handy in a maze, and when were tracking a foe, and the wand came with an illumination paint twice a day, it would last forever. A wand of Fireball, that changed hands too. And a Wand of Vials, 12 vials a day would be produce from the wand. This can in handy as Liz liked to collect things to try and make poisons with. "You never know what could be an ingredient." and I like to make Healing Potions, "it was better to have them than not." I reasoned. And of course the Reason we had come to the shop Booties of Silence for Matt and I. We had all gained two Bags of Holding while we in a Cave/Mine from a previous party of Adventurers had been overwhelmed by the horde of Kobolds. I still wonder to this day how WE got out of there. Our session end for the night on that note and voiced to DM about dyeing the Bag of Holding I was keeping and he stated we could totally do that. One week later we all at the table we had rented joking and laughing, Five minutes have pasted and we decided to RP while waiting. I handed out the Healing potions I had made when we had been waiting on our order. "What do you think you are doing?!"

As you have yet to respond to my last comment, I must assume you have "Life" going on and don't have time to deal with my goofy self. That said, Artemis is one of the top 10 swordsmen in the the history of DND. He has battled Drizzt to a standstill several times. Shiv is obviously very good at what he does, but he is no where near Artemis.
@curtisfranzen986
@curtisfranzen986 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. Artemis is a much higher level swordsman than we are told Shiv is. Need I remind you that Artemis is nearly Drizzt's equal in swordsmanship. I highly doubt that Shiv could stand toe to toe with Drizzt.

Spoilers . . . . . . . . DMPC (Paladin) hires an assassin (NPC) to kill a BBEG for the party (who for moral/legal/logistic reasons can't do it themselves. Male assassin shows up. Later, female assassin shows up and male assassin kills her. *spoiler* She was the assassin hired by the party and He was hired by the BBEG to kill the DMPC. Realizing this (after listening to the party speak about the job) in honor of her he kills the BBEG for her (and leaves her signature poison at the scene) before finishing His mission to kill pally. So, to sum up, DM introduces edgelord NPC to kill off BBEG and "plot twist" kill DMPC too. PCs are background characters that don't really do much. I thought it was a little weird that there was this much detail until I realized it was ALL from the DM's perspective and then it clicked; good story, but falls into "Worst DM" category because DM literally took all of the spotlights (villain, tragic plot device, tragic backstory, victorious hero, dramatic tragic backstory plot device). I can imagine all the Players sitting around the table listening to the DM talk at them for hours.

Mixed feelings, a lot of unnecessary edge that felt generic, and entirely oriented on one person, barely covering the party at all. And without whatever context the players had, the twist at the end came from nowhere and was cheap, feel like a bit of foreshadowing shouldve been sprinkled into the campaign after shiv arrived, unless it was there and I totally missed it Not a bad story, but the twist felt unearned, and the character felt generic
@christianbarrett3040
@christianbarrett3040 2 жыл бұрын
The foreshadowing was there. The paladin clearly knew Shiv based on their interaction, he was familiar with the customs of the assassins in regards to resurrection, and the relationship history between the assassin of the rose and Shiv was alluded to via the locket and the description of its contents. To be specific the paladin being able to sneak up on an assassin is a sign that he had skills in the same area. Not flinching when having the hidden blade pulled on him shows familiarity, knowing that Shiv doesn't talk and making it clear that the stone didn't require talking to work as well as communicating in sign language also shows familiarity. Shiv's acceptance of a room bought by someone else, despite being an assassin, shows a certain level of trust between them. As for the final assassination, there is some evidence it will be coming such as the paladin remarking that he had made his peace with the gods, a clear resignation to his fate of death, and his willingness to touch the wooden jar with the rose on it despite seemingly knowing what it was and how dangerous it is.
