If this story is an example of what a great westmarch server experience is like then Neckbeardia's westmarch server is a powerful reminder of what happens when you give the wrong kind of people too much power. It was nice to see that much of the server was salvaged and remade into something better after the original descended into maddening oblivion. I don't know if this chef was the same one I knew from the Neckbeardia westmarch, but I am glad someone like that was the corner stone of something amazing. Arcadia had it’s fair share of issues, but it was a good thing people in the DM team were passionate enough to get everything sorted and give a satisfying conclusion. It’s unfortunate to hear you had a bad experience with moderation, I hope you found your fill of tabletop elsewhere!

This is just like two servers I'm in! The format is great and though we all level independently and have multiple characters it's an amazing place and if you find one I highly recommend doing it!

I've never done anything with Westmarch, but this sounds absolutely AWESOME! For a while, I participated in a Perf MMORPG, back in the days of nothing but text. My sister brought me into it, and convinced me to be a weaver, like her. It was really neat! But life, happened, and I dropped out quickly. But this reminded me of that, quite a bit, especially the first two weeks, w her everyone developed their PCs and properties. Sounds like SO MUCH FUN.

I’m working on developing one, if you’re interested. It’ll have a traveling tavern meant to allow players to come together easily, and mix up their parties as needed. Mainly to keep clashing schedules from stopping an entire party from being able to play.

First was fech, a necromancer wizard, there was also a fighter guy whose name i forget but he had an extermination shop. i tired to get involved alot of times but list time i checked up on them was about half a year ago when my phone got destroyed and i couldnt recover my email (and there fore discord)

I know this is a silly question but I'm gonna ask it: What is a Westmarch? I'm not too familiar with the idea in the D&D format.

Basically, it’s a super campaign of sorts: multiple DMs arrange quests, and take on a few players from the community. At Arcadia’s peak, we had something of a dozen DMs and ~40 active players if I remember correctly

@@TheStormWolf10 It's better to look at it like a campaign format. Some people prefer one DM and 4 or 5 players at a dining room table, the traditional and most well-known way to play D&D. We did something different, filling a whole Discord server and allowing players and DMs in our community to come and go as they please. This is just a different, larger scale way to play D&D.

Meh, it happened in Arcadia already and it just gave a lot of people who ended up inactive after the hype died down. Having weird people join is always the risk of doing public campaigns the likes of the Westmarch, we’ve just been lucky in those regards

From what I've seen, a social media advertisement often causes a boost to a new or existing server, and as said before by the other posters, then has that spike die down (and the people who are staying will stay.)
